3. Cinder Hill is a large cinder cone volcano. It is between the Sierra Nevada and the Inyo-White Mountains. The volcano looks a reddish color because it is basaltic.

6. Fossil Falls is a waterfall that is connected to the Owens River, which was the product of melted glaciers coming from the Sierra Nevada Mts. The waterfall was created when the river traveled through the lava forming its unique look.

7. Metate Holes were created by pebbles flowing in the current and getting stuck in the basalt. They would swirl around creating the holes.

8. An Obsidian Flake is a piece of black glass that was used by Native American to make tools and weapons like arrowheads.

9. The Petroglyph, a prehistoric rock carving, was made thousands of years ago by Native Americans. It is believed to describe a hunting scene.

10. House Rings are rocks that are placed on the ground to form a circle. This circle is a base to their house. Native Americans usually stayed in this flat dry area during winter.

11. Mormon Rocks Formation is a sedimentary rock which is many pieces of rocks put together. It is evidence that the San Andreas fault runs under it causing the rocks to rise up.

12. The Granular Structure of Mormon rocks feels rough almost like sand paper. Its layers show a perfect record of weather including years with lots of rain and drought years.

15. Diaz Lake is a pond that lies between the Sierra Nevada and Inyo-White Mountains. It was created by an earthquake along the Lone Pine Fault.

17. Mt. Whitney Interagency Visitor Center

18. Mt. Whitney sits on the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Its elevation is 14,505 ft.

19. Inyo-White Mountains has a lower elevation than the Sierra Nevada Mtn. Therefore it sit in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

20. Alluvial Fan is a fan shape that is created when water flows from higher elevation to a lower flatter elevation.

21. Keoughs Hot spring is heated by hot rocks from underground volcanic activity.

22. Mono Lake has two islands called Paoha and Negit.

23. The Former Shore Lines show how much the water levels have receded at Mono Lake. ancient recent present

24. Tufa is created by the calcium, carbonate, and limestone that results from the mixture of fresh water and salt water.

25. Glaciated Mountains and Moraines

26. Convict Lake lies within the Sierra Nevada Mt. Its name comes from a group of convicts that were captured and hung there.

27. Lateral Moraines are created by glaciers that slide down pushing through the mountain making hills along the side of the glacier.

28. Terminal Moraine is a hill that is created in front of the glacier after it slides down. Taken by Rocio Villarreal

32. The Inyo-white Mountains have a distinctive vegetation in which allows Bristlecones to grow at the very top of the mountain.

33. This image shows the instructions to the Japanese when they arrived at Manzanar. I chose this picture because I thought it was very interesting to read everything the Japanese were allowed and not allowed to do.

34. Manzanar is a Japanese interment camp that is located in Owens Valley. Japanese Americans were forced here after the World War II.

35. The picture shows a concrete circle where Japanese that helped built the camp wrote their names.
