1. November 2013 Newsletter
November is here and we have a busy month preparing for our annual Thanksgiving lunch. Please mark your
calendars for November 26th so you can attend as the children make the entire lunch for our KELC families on
this day. In addition we also have conferences this month and into December. A sign-up sheet will be emailed
out shortly and you can let your child’s teachers or myself know what dates and times work best for you.
In October we raised $800 from our month long raffle. Thank you for your support. This money was used to
extend the tile in the classrooms. Hopefully, you have noticed the improvements and like them as much as we
do. We could not have done it without your support. Thank you.
If you have not already given me proof of insurance or that your child has had their flu shot I need this
information as soon as possible, and no later than December 1, 2013.
Have a great month,
Jeni Hoover

2. Bird Tweets:
October was awesome! The children loved picking apples at
Apple Hill! We hope everyone enjoyed eating them or making
something yummy with them. The children have really been
interested in our tree study! We went on a hunt for the buckeye trees
we have here at Kendal with one of our favorite grandfriends, Donna.
We also had a great time on our first of many ELI trips to the
Cleveland Natural History Museum. We learned all about preventing
forest fires with Smokey the Bear and recycling with Woodsy Owl.
We also got to explore the dinosaur exhibit and look at the live
animals they have.
November is going to be just as great as we finish up our tree
study and talk about Thanksgiving. We will be busy preparing special
soup and desserts for our Thanksgiving Luncheon on Tuesday,
November 26th. We will also be visiting the Cleveland Museum of art
and learn about African art. A big “Thank you” to Ann Howell,
Charlie’s mom, for coming and talking with the children about the
Yoruba kingdom in Nigeria. She talked about a piece of art they will
see at the museum, a king’s crown.
Have a great month!
Giraffe Whistles:
As always, the giraffes have had another busy month,
in October we had 2 field trips: the first was to Apple Hill and
the second to the Museum of Natural History. The children
learned about taking care of our earth and how to prevent forest
fires. Woodsy owl and Smokey the Bear were there to talk to
the children. Our current study is learning about trees and who
takes care of them.
Our next ELI field trip will be on the 13th to the Art
Museum and we will be learning about Africa. Prior to these
trips, we get a big tub of items the children can explore. The
kids are having an awesome time playing the different musical
instruments, listening to African music, and wearing the
multicultural clothing that has been provided.
Just a reminder, as the weather is getting colder
outside, please make sure that your child has the appropriate
clothing for outdoor play as we do go out every day weather
permitting.
Have a great November,
Karen and Julie
