3. Goals Discuss what ISZL has been doing with videos Best Practices – our take over the past 6 months What we can learn from each other and moving forward
4. Who we are International Day School in central Switzerland 1,200 students from 50 nations; staff of over 250 Merger of three schools in 2008 Started video production in 2010
5. How we got started ISZL Webmaster went to Prague Film School for a four week workshop. Purchased equipment valued at around CHF 10,000 – Sony HVRZ7 hybrid camera (digital work flow). Image acquisition can be captured in tape and digital. Quick turn around time. Developed an overall plan of what video production would look like at the school. Production started in November. Took the approach of “we would rather show things than talk about them.”
6. Finalsite Timely upgrade of media technology in 2010 with streaming ability Importance of HD –we can shoot, edit and distribute We can distribute like a channel, and actually broadcast our material Our Concern: amount of space videos take up on the website. We took out extra space, but it is not enough
7. Three Areas of Production Parent Portal Marketing and Fundraising Video Distribution Remember to create shelf life
11. Getting the word out Dear ISZL Community Members, Last week ISZL took the time to send messages of hope to Japan and respond to the recent earthquake and tsunami that affected the entire country and world. I am pleased to report that together as a school we raised CHF 20,000 for the Japanese Red Cross, and next week Friday, 8th April a representative from the Red Cross in Switzerland will be at ISZL so that we can present the organization with the funds. If you haven’t had a chance yet, I hope that you will visit www.iszl.ch/japan to see videos that capture the events that took place on all three campuses. A special thanks to Dominic Currer, Director ISZL, and the following Classroom Teachers for allowing us to film their discussions: Warren Park, Jonathan Irving, Philip Bruce, John Dalesio, Noel Campbell and Valerie Cattez. Sincerely, Jeff Snyder Director of Development
14. DVD Production Middle School Musical – Mulan IB Music Concert High School Graduation – Will give copy of DVD as an alumni gift
15. What we have learned Effective length of video is under seven minutes Approximately one minute of viewing time is an hour in post production. Video production is possible with a small staff Make a plan, when possible “script” participants. Create videos that can have shelf value. Not to be too ambitious, be careful with resources.
16. Our next projects Create videos for departmental purposes Dual purpose marketing and parent portal “A day in a life of…….” Look at ways of covering sports and live broadcasting Admissions Capital Campaign
