The aim of the Thank You Solidarity campaign was to create a new image of the heritage of Solidarity – the social movement of 10 million people, that helped topple communism in Eastern Europe. The campaign was the first step of reconciling a divided society, the result of political involvement in this aspect of Polish history. Its aim was the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the worker’s strikes, which resulted in securing autonomous trade unions and creating the first structures of an independent government. The results of the campaign in the media were impressive: articles describing the campaign appeared in all four main Polish daily newspapers. Poland’s largest free daily – Metro – dedicated its entire front page to the campaign (with pictures of people with badges and “Thank you Solidarity” notes.
