A slideshow of different faiths, their beliefs and what they worship

 World’s biggest religion with 2 billion adherents

 Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of god

 Worship in churches

 Spiritual leaders called priests

 Holy book is the Bible

 Holy days- Easter and Christmas
ISLAM

 Second largest religion in the world with 1 billion followers
 Followers of Islam- Muslims
 Believe that there is only one God (Allah)
 Allah sent prophets to mankind to teach them how to live
 Five pillars if Islam- Declaration of Faith, praying ( 5 times a day),
charity, fasting and pilgrimage to Mecca (at least once)
 Holy book is the Quran
HINDUISM

 In some ways oldest living religion
 Over 900 million adherents worldwide
 No single founder, no single scripture, no commonly agreed set of teachings
 Believe in Supreme God, whose qualities are represented by a multitude of
deities
 Believe in cycle of birth, death and rebirth governed by Karma
 Main texts are the Vedas (knowledge) and supplement of books based on the
Vedas
BUDDHISM

 Around 376 million adherents
 Essence of Buddhism is the attainment of enlightenment
 No supreme god or deity in Buddhism
 Path of enlightenment- through practice and development of
morality, meditation and wisdom
 Five moral precepts, to refraining from: harming living things, taking
what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying or gossip and taking
intoxicating substances e.g. drugs or alcohol
SIKHISM

 Founded in 16th century by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, 20 mollion Sikhs worldwide
 Sikhism is a monotheistic religion
 The three golden rules- meditate on the holy name, live honestly and word hard
and share the fruit of your livings with others
 5 symbols (Ks)- Kesh (uncut hair), Kanga (comb) Kara (iron bangle), Kachera
(undershorts) and Kirpan (small sword-blunt)
 Place of worship- Gurudwara, meaning gateway to the Guru
 Holy book- Guru Granth Sahib (the living guru)
JUDAISM

 Founded by Moses, trace their history back to Abraham

 Over 13 million around the world

 Believe that there is only one God with whom they have a
covenant

 Rich history of text but most important one is the Torah

 Spiritual leaders are called Rabbis
