to adolescents and their
special needs in any
educational environment.
ADOLESCENCE IS A SYNDROME
Chronic Adolescence
Acute Adolescence
Benign Adolescence
Malignant Adolescence
CRY OF AN ADOLESCENT
“I feel like I'm on a road at a huge
intersection with thousand of streets yet
I'm at a loss.
There is no one to tell me the way, I need
a place to go.
Even if someone did tell me where to go, I
wouldn't listen.
Sometimes I feel like I'm going nowhere.
Sure I'm on the road, but where am I
going in life?"
“THE WONDER YEARS”
•Parents wonder if they will survive
their child’s journey through puberty,
• teachers wonder how to keep their
students focused on learning, and
•adolescents themselves wonder if
they are normal.
Yes, these are the wonder years
CHARACTERISTICS OF YOUNG
ADOLESCENT PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT:
• Restlessness and fatigue due to
hormonal changes
• A need for physical activity because of
increased energy
• Developing sexual awareness
• A concern with changes in body size and
shape
Today's youth and their challenges
HOW TEACHERS CAN SUPPORT THE PHYSICAL
DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG ADOLESCENT STUDENTS:
• Respect and understand the physical changes
that students are going through.
• Vary instructional methods to allow for physical
activity and movement.
• Allow for open and honest discussion about
issues of development, puberty, and sexuality.
• Allow for stretch, bathroom, and snack breaks
during long blocks of time.
• Allow ample time in the school schedule for
developing physical fitness
HOW TEACHERS CAN SUPPORT THE INTELLECTUAL
DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG ADOLESCENT STUDENTS
• Focus on complex thinking skills that ask
students to apply their knowledge and skill
to worthwhile tasks.
• Ask students to make choices and pursue
their own interests.
• Provide cooperative learning opportunities,
• Have regular student-teacher conferences.
• Provide opportunities for individual
projects such as Expert Studies and
Internet-Search papers.

THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF TEACHERS
• What went smoothly?

work?
TEACHERS CAN HELP TEEN BUILD THEIR CONFIDENCE
THROUGHOUT THEIR ADOLESCENCE BY FOLLOWING
THESE TIPS:
• firm but fair discipline.
• Be trustworthy.
• Give teen choices
• Become a teen's biggest fan
• Do not use criticism

• Model a positive attitude
• Praise your student when praise is due.
• Spend time with your student
ADOLESCENT SLEEP PATTERN
• Observe several classes in your middle or
high school, watching specifically for how
awake students seem to be. Compare early
morning to afternoon classes, and classes
that get students involved and active to
those with a lecture format.
• What did you observe? What changes in
scheduling or teaching approach you should
do to wake up students who sleep in class?
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS AN IMPORTANT
FACTOR IN EDUCATING ADOLESCENT
LEARNER.
• Working together as a team
• parent+ student+ teacher =
academic success, will ensure
a bright future for all students
TEACH HOW TO MANAGE STRESS IN
ADOLESCENT LEARNERS
Young people become stressed for many
reasons
• Increased arguments with parents
• Trouble with brother or sister
• Increased arguments between parents
• Serious illness or injury of family member
• Trouble with classmates
• Trouble with teachers

• Posture
• Breathing
• Less stress, more calm
• Concentration and mood
• Heart benefits
WISE TEACHERS CAPITALIZE ON
TEENS' LOVE FOR INSTANT
DIGITAL COMMUNICATION.
INSPIRE TEENS
• Get Motivated! Believe in
Yourself - Believe in Others!
• Motivation Starts With You!
REACH THEM TO TEACH THEM
Teaching adolescents is
about relevance and
challenge, affection and
respect.
THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF A
TEACHER
• PERSIST.
Because with an idea,
determination, and the right tools,
you can do great things.
Let your instincts, your intellect, and
your heart, guide you.
THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF A
TEACHER
• TRUST.
Believe in the incredible power of the
human mind.
Of doing something that makes a
difference.
Of working hard. Of laughing and
hoping.
THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF A
TEACHER
• The start of something new
brings the hope of something
great,
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
I have a past that is rich in memories,
I have a present that is challenging,
and fun because,

FUTURE
