I love Wordpress there are so many great themes that can make your site look extremely
stylish while at the same time produce sweet results. Lets back up a minute and talk
about some basics required to know in order to understand what we’re talking about
here.
Wordpress is a content management system used as a framework for your website. There
are 2 versions of Wordpress; one is WordPress.com which host blogs on their website.
The one we are concerned with is WordPress.org, used for self hosted Wordpress
websites.
Self hosted Wordpress websites are hosted on your hosting provider. These sites allow
for a ton of customization when compared to other subdomain blogs hosted on a server
that runs Wordpress such as WordPress.com. The point is using Wordpress on your own
domains is a great way to create awesome sites.
Themes are Wordpress’s site layout templates, they provide the basic look and feel of
your website and some provide more advanced features.
Theme types include small service based themes, magazine themes, ecommerce based
themes, sales and squeeze page themes and of course the most common blog based
themes. So you see there are a lot of options when it comes to Wordpress sites not just
creating a blog.
There are also different levels of themes, basic themes are usually free while more
complex and specialized themes are going to cost you anywhere from a few bucks all
the way up to a few hundred dollars.
From my experience basic themes are great for most websites if they are mostly blog
content based. Simple themes usually provide less distractions and as a result are likely
to convert better. There are of course themes you pay for that are still really simple
looking.
For a lot of my affiliate sites I tend to use simple free themes, usually I custom create

them with a special software, but that’s because I like minor specific things that may
require a bit of time to find a good free theme that meets those specifications.
Some of the best premium theme providers include Templatic, StudioPress, Thesis,
Theme Forest and Woo Themes to name a few. I’ve used many of these premium theme
providers for specialized sites and have a had great success with them. Specifically if
you are planning to sell a website you should highly consider purchasing a premium
theme. It will increase the perceived value of your website a ton and you can use the
Themes on more than one site in most cases.
