At the end of this session the patient and their

•Be able to know what is EHR.
•Know the benefits of EHR.
•Be empowered by using the knowledge gain
from this teaching session to recognize any
mistakes ,decrease standard of care and any
issues of privacy and security.
4. THE DEFINITION OF EHR
According to (Koch et’al 2010) p105 EHR can be
defined as “a computerized comprehensive
record than contains medical record, results of
lab , imaging , and other test, consultant
information , prescribing information , and often
times incorporate computerized order entry as
well as other features, which may involve
billing , prior authorization , assessment of drug
–drug interaction , decision support and
mechanism”.

FAMILY
1)EHR reduces the amount of paperwork.
As patients you are always bombarded
with questionnaires that ask you
questions that you may have answered
numerous time . This system will allow
the speedy retrieval of clinical data just
by the click of a mouse an reducing
redundancy.

EHR provides a way for all the health care
professionals to share information in a secure
and private manner, each professionals can
gain access to current accurate information
pertaining to your health, this helps to guide
the professional to make the best decision
especially in emergency situation.

procedures.
EHR provides a warning system to alert
healthcare professionals of any drug interaction
or allergies to a particular drug , for example if
you are being cared for by more than one
physician inclusive of a specialist , this feature
will help you save cost from taking drugs that
don’t work also saves you from the risk of
developing a drug reaction .

EHR reduces the chances of you having to do a
procedure more than once ,this system displays

records , in this case the patient can make
corrections or additions to their own health record.

private and secured forum. This would help you to
stay current with your health also in some
instances there is an answer and question forum
that helps you laze with a doctor anytime
anywhere, this can help in retrieving a speedy
response from your health care provider.
