5. I read the Percy Jackson books and loved them. I went and
saw the film on DVD after it came out.
The series is about a boy Percy who thinks he’s a normal
boy until he’s told that he’s a demigod and his father is
Poseidon. The entire series revolves around a prophecy that
says that a child of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon, or
Hades) would either save Olympus or destroy it.
A lot of kids and adults enjoyed it because the family issues
were complex (the godly parent couldn’t see their mortal
children so their children resented their godly parent for
this).
6. Since October 28th, 2011 it has been on the New York
Times for children’s series for 223 weeks.
More than 20 million copies of the books have been
sold in more than 10 countries.
The series won: the Mark Twain award (2008 and
2009), the Rebecca Caudill award (2009), and the
Milner award (2011)

Rick was raised and educated in Texas. He returned
and now lives in San Antonio with his wife and two
sons.
The inspiration for the Percy Jackson series came from
his son who was dyslexic. His son wanted nightly
bedtime stories about Greek mythology but eventually
he ran out of real stories and had to create one. Out of
this the character Percy Jackson was born.
10. Rick Riordan set up a fan site so he could stay in touch
with his fans: http://www.percyjacksonbooks.com/
His fans made places themselves where they could
share their love of the books and movies:
