o Always evolving
• Provides another alternative to how you deploy solutions for your customers versus traditional on-premises or hosting
• Can shorten time to billing by expediting ability to start projects sooner vs. having to wait for customer’s IT to procure
•

•

Opens the door to additional offerings
o Mobile solutions for remote workforce or a customer’s consumer presence
o Managed services
o Highly scalable infrastructures
Channel Incentives – If part of the Azure Circle Program, you can receive incentives for the amount of Azure consumption
that your solutions help drive

Investment
•
•

Commit to train one (1) Sales Resource/Account Manager per office/region to champion solutions using Windows Azure
Commit to train two (2) consultant per office/region and one (1) architect per office/region on using Windows Azure

Next Steps
• Get to know the MPN Resources(link) around Windows Azure and access Benefits (MSDN Benefits, BizSpark, Microsoft Partner
Network, Free 30-day trial)

•

Think about joining the Windows Azure Circle Program after your first win. Note however that you will only have until
December 30th, 2013 to be grandfathered into this program before it rolls into the standard MPN competencies (click here
to learn more)
o One Windows Azure win in the last 6 months
o A commitment to complete Windows Azure readiness training for: 1 seller, 2 developers, 1 architect

Makers

Next Steps (continued)
o A commitment to register all Windows Azure opportunities via PSX
o Work with Azure BDM and PTS to enroll in the Azure Circle Program
o Once registered for Azure Circle program, register to provide Azure Deployment and Planning Services (link)
•

Work with your PSE or PTS to make better connections with the Microsoft field sales teams
o U.S. Azure Partnerships team
o Windows Azure SSPs/TSPs
o Regional SSP/TSP (i.e. Data Center, App Plat, etc)

•

Gain Real world experience with Windows Azure - It’s hard to sell the benefits of moving over to the Windows Azure
Platform if you haven’t done so yourself within your business. It is important that you find an internal application or
process and move that to the cloud. Both your technical and sales resources will be better positioned to sell the cloud if
they can point to something they use on a daily basis. For this particular scenario we would recommend the following
ideas:
o Move your company facing website or one of your websites to Windows Azure Websites
o Use Windows Azure for back-end to your own mobile workforce applications (i.e. time-reporting application, sales
enablement tools for your sales resources)
o Move your Dev/Test environment to the Cloud
o Etc.

•

Demonstrate technical skills through Microsoft Competencies:
o Application Development: Application Integration, Application Development or Mobility competency
o Infrastructure: Collaboration and Content , Messaging or Management & Virtualization competency
o MPN Competency Changes coming first half of 2014: There will be Azure cloud track inside the following
competencies: Datacenter, Data Analytics, Data Platform and Application Development. (click here to learn more)

•

Have your sales/marketing, architect and technical resources utilize the guidance and readiness provided in the following
sections as well as the individual scenario documents.

Selling / Go To Market









Understand: Understand what materials are available to support your activities. Work with PSE, PTS, or Azure BDMs
as well as use the readiness defined within this document.
Plan: Sit down with your Solution Practice Leads and figure out how to best position Windows Azure as part of your
existing offerings.
Sell: Continue to talk to your existing and potential customers about your firm’s offerings and remember to position
cloud as part of the solution.
Pricing a Deal:: work with your PSE/PTS to figure out best resource to pull in, but don’t be afraid to ask for help when
it comes to pricing Windows Azure ( i.e. U.S. Azure Partnerships team, Windows Azure SSP/TSP, regional SSP/TSP such
as Data Center or App Plat). Also have your practice lead take a look at the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP)
Toolkit for Windows Azure Platform (link)
UpSell / Cross-sell opportunities
o Managed Services
o Dev/Test: Think about building a ‘dev/test in the cloud’ option into every SOW you write
Build up reference able clients and/or case studies to help with selling

It is important that you find an internal application or process and move that to the cloud. Both your technical and sales resources will be better positioned to sell the cloud if they can point to something they use on a daily basis. For this particular scenario we would recommend the following ideas: o Move your company facing website or one of your websites to Windows Azure Websites o Use Windows Azure for back-end to your own mobile workforce applications (i.e. time-reporting application, sales enablement tools for your sales resources) o Move your Dev/Test environment to the Cloud o Etc. • Demonstrate technical skills through Microsoft Competencies: o Application Development: Application Integration, Application Development or Mobility competency o Infrastructure: Collaboration and Content , Messaging or Management & Virtualization competency o MPN Competency Changes coming first half of 2014: There will be Azure cloud track inside the following competencies: Datacenter, Data Analytics, Data Platform and Application Development. (click here to learn more) • Have your sales/marketing, architect and technical resources utilize the guidance and readiness provided in the following sections as well as the individual scenario documents. Sell: Continue to talk to your existing and potential customers about your firm’s offerings and remember to position cloud as part of the solution. Pricing a Deal:: work with your PSE/PTS to figure out best resource to pull in, but don’t be afraid to ask for help when it comes to pricing Windows Azure ( i.e. U.S. Azure Partnerships team, Windows Azure SSP/TSP, regional SSP/TSP such as Data Center or App Plat). Also have your practice lead take a look at the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit for Windows Azure Platform (link) UpSell / Cross-sell opportunities o Managed Services o Dev/Test: Think about building a ‘dev/test in the cloud’ option into every SOW you write Build up reference able clients and/or case studies to help with selling Sales and Marketing Marketing    Cloud OS Campaign (link) Be Lean and Stay Lean SMB Campaign (link) Visual Studio campaign (link) Readiness Core  Azure At Your Door Step – Virtual 2 hr.
