2. About us
Poltava Regional Public Health Charity Fund
– non-profit organization founded in 1995, working to public
health in the field of HIV / AIDS prevention, drug addiction,
tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and other socially
negative phenomena.
Our Mission
– reduction of socially dangerous diseases, formation of
physical, mental, social, health and social welfare on the
principles of charity and humanity.

4. Activities
Harm reduction among injecting
drug
users
(IDUs)
–
needle
exchange, HIV and sexually transmitted
infections (STIs) testing, psychological,
medical and social assistance. 3017
IDUs are covered from 1996 to 2011.
Harm reduction among commercial sex
workers (CSW) – mobile counseling points on
the highway "Kyiv-Kharkiv", testing for HIV/STI,
psychological, medical and social assistance.
Currently, 450 CSW are our clients.
5. Activities
HIV/AIDS prevention through pharmacies
– distribution of syringes, condoms, antiseptics
and prevention information through pharmacies,
pharmacists training as harm reduction
consultants. The project currently works with
five pharmacies in Poltava.
Preventive work in correctional facilities
–training of volunteers on HIV prevention
among prisoners, preparing for release and resocialization. During the period 2009-10/2011
440 volunteers among the prisoners are trained
in three prison colonies (PC №№ 16, 64, 65)
and the jail.

educational
activities, publishing – edition of
national newspaper "White Arbour"
(since
1994),
thematic
booklets,
brochures, guidelines, training manuals.
58 editions of newspaper are published,
45 items of information and educational
materials (booklets, brochures, flyers) on
HIV/AIDS, STIs, Harm Reduction,
tuberculosis etc. are created.

individual work with people who live with
HIV/AIDS (PLWH) and their families on
the model of case management,
organization of medical, psychological,
social assistance and trainings for staff
of HIV-service organizations.

The main qualitative results and achievements in
2010-2011:
• developed a complete package of project reporting
documentation (bylaws on "Altair", Standards and Policy,
Clients documentation)
• personnel of Service "Altair“ are
well-trained, all
employees have higher education (social workers and
psychologists)
• network of partner organizations in the cities of Poltava,
Lubny, Kremenchug and Kobelyaki (156 of governmental
and non-profit organizations)

• 290 PLWH are covered with the project
• 280 PLWH are provided with essential medicines, 184
PLWH - emergency medicines
• individual social support for 125 PLWH
• 2100 consultations are given to the clients in CaseManagement Service “Altair” and partner organizations
• Consultative hotline is organized

Komsomolsk, Lubny, Kobelyaki, Piryatin, Grebenka, Gadyach
and Mirgorod)
training of inner circle for care and support of PLWH in terminal
stage by qualified nurses who will carry out all the procedures
prescribed by a doctor first
