2. What I have learnt from my preliminary task
For my preliminary task I created a Student Magazine. This student
magazine was for the students of South Downs College. This was my
first time creating a magazine and from doing this I have built on my
skills so I was able to produce a Music Magazine.

3. My weaknesses
From starting my Student magazine I did not have the knowledge of using many
programs such as blogger, InDesign, Prezi and Slide Share.
By looking at my skills audit which I completed on the 17th October 2011 I can see that I
did not have a wide knowledge of a couple of things which I can now successfully
use by using the websites I have included with them.

4. Weaknesses
• My biggest weakness was not being able to use the program InDesign.
This was because I have never heard of it before and I had to complete
all of my work on this program. I only had a basic insight on how to use
the easy things and then I had to look on Google for web pages which
could teach me on how to use other parts of it.

5. My strengths
From completing my Student Magazine I can now use many programs that I
did not no how to use before which can be seen in my weaknesses.
• My preliminary task helped me get to grips with using InDesign and
allowed me to get on with my work quickly as I did not have to worry
about not being able to use or find something.
• It also allowed me to be able to look at the things such as pictures to
understand what looks good and what looks bad in a photo. I mainly
looked at the mise-en-scene to see if it photos look better with
something in the background or not.

6. Student Magazine Music Magazine
As you can see there is a big difference from my Student Magazine to my Music
Magazine. I gained a greater aspect of layout this can be shown through the text as the
image on the left shows all the text to be in a uniform line on the left hand side on the
page and on the image on the right the text has been done in a variety of colours, text
and sizes and also at different angles which allows the Front Cover to look different and
more fun which was what I was trying to achieve as this is a POP Magazine.

7. Student Magazine Music Magazine
Although I really like my Student Magazine Contents Page I think it is very plain and it is
very uniform. On my Music Magazine I sill have a little white in the background but I feel
that it helps balance out the page because of the other bright colours on it. Another
thing I feel that I feel that I have improved on is the layout because the text and colours
are not separated onto different sides of the page, they are spread out evenly which
separates the page up into different sections.
