General Robert E. Lee was determined to
escape the Union forces and reach his
supplies at Lynchburg.
4. Leadership
The Union forces were lead by
General Ulysses S. Grant who
grew up in Ohio, he graduated
middle of his class at West
Point, and was a career military
man
The confederate forces were
lead by General Robert E. Lee.
His father was a revolutionary
war hero, he graduated second
in his class at West Point, and
he was an officer at Corps. Of
Engineers for 17 years
5. Tactics
The Union army struck General Lee and his troops
before they could get their supplies, therefore the
Union troops already had a clear advantage and
when General Lee realized he was surrounded on all
sides he surrendered rather than lose the lives of
more of his troops.
6. Significance
The importance of this battle is that it is the last
battle of the Civil War to be fought in Virginia.
