• Romeo is one of the title characters in the
William Shakespears play Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo is the son of old Montague and his
wife. Romeo secretly loves Juliet, a member
of the rival house of Capulet.
• Romeo is a protagonist along with Juliet.
• Romeo is from the play Romeo and Juliet. It is
a tragedy play.
• The play is set in the 16th century in Verona,
Italy.
3. ROMEO AND JULIET
SYNOPSIS
Romeo and Juliet is a story revolving
around two families in Verona, Italy.
Despite their two families fighting,
Romeo and Juliet fall in love and secretly
marry.
The story unfolds tragically when
confused messages mean Romeo takes
poison believing Juliet to be dead. Juliet
wakens to find her lover dead and takes
her own life.
4. CONFLICT IN ROMEO AND JULIET
• Person vs person – street brawls, Mercutio
and Tybalt fight, Romeo slays Tybalt, Parris is
killed by The Latter.
• Person vs self – Romeo drinks poison and dies
Juliet stabs herself.
• Person vs fate – Romeo and Juliet are ment to
be together.
• Person vs society – Society is against Romeo
and Juliet being together as Juliet is Capulet
and Romeo is Montague.
5. MAIN CONFLICT DRIVING PLOT
• The main conflict that drives the plot in
Romeo and Juliet is the forbidden love
between Romeo who is from the Montague
family and Juliet who is from the Capulet
family. These two families hate each other.
6. PLOT STRUCTURE
• EXPOSITION – Romeo shows his love for Rosaline.
Normal conversations are going on in the Montague
and Capulet families. Mercuto makes fun of Romeo
because Rosaline will never marry him.
• EXITING FORCE – Romeo meets Juliet at the Capulet
house and completely forgets about Rosaline.
• RISING ACTION – Romeo secretly marries Juliet
fearing that the Montague and Capulet families would
never let them marry.
• TURNING POINT – Tybalt kills Mercuto then Romeo
kills Tybalt. The prince then banishes Romeo from
Verona.
7. • FALLING ACTION – Paris is about to be married to
Juliet and the Capulets still don’t know about Juliet's
secret marriage. Juliet decides to fake her death with
a potion that the Friar gives her.
• MOMENT OF FINAL SUSPENCE – Romeo is told Juliet is
dead when she is really asleep from the potion. Romeo
goes to the Capulet vault ready to drink the poison.
• CATASTROPHY –Romeo drinks the poison and dies.
Juliet wakes up to find that Romeo is dead and kills
herself with a dagger.
• RESOLUTION – Both families agree to stop hatred after
the tragedy.
8. EXPLORING THE CHARACTER
• BEGGINNING
Romeo is hopelessly in love with Rosaline but
because he can’t be with her he is totally
devastated, gloomy, he doesn’t want to talk to
anyone and he hides himself from everybody.
He is driven by the fact that he loves Rosaline
so much.
9. • MIDDLE
Romeo then meets Juliet and everything is full
of light, he is happy again, and he jokes around
with Mercutio.
Romeo is influenced largely by Juliet as she
changes his perspective on life.
Romeo is affected largely by conflict as his
family, the Montague's, and the Capulets are
always fighting and because of this he ends up
killing Tybalt.
10. • END
Romeo becomes a lot more mature and
confident. He is now exited about living
because he loves Juliet and Juliet loves him
back. But then he kills himself so by the end of
the play he has lost his life.
