In this we show the www.thisismykea.com platform and explain the processes of building it at first on Zend and later rebuilding it on Drupal. We outlined out Con't and Pro's and then discussed them with the room.
9. Concept Thisismykea.com Selling precisely sized stickers that fit on your IKEA furniture E-commerce platform Designer community
10.
11. Zend version Lead developer most knowledgeable with Zend We were not convinced that Drupal could handle such complexity, in experience possibly… 8 man months of work and started in Feb 2010
12. Zend – Con’s & Pro’s No backend functions out of the box or easily created & need on ACL implementation. Multilingual is hard, manual PO files No great building blocks Object Oriented Database mapper (Doctrine ORM) Easier to deploy & version control
14. Drupal version Got frustrated that we did not have building blocks and admin section was very costly to build Everything needed to be custom coding & then theming. We see this issue in multiple platforms/frameworks. About 6 man months of work and startedin Jan 2011
15. Con’s Miscalculation on our side to force drupal to concept and not convince client to sacrifice certain parts to do in the “drupal way”. Ubercart implements/outputs to many things in it’s own way, which is hard to customize This has cost us at least +/- 3man months
16. Pro’s Easy & clean backend extensions Extensive permission system Being able to add webservices fairly easy Much better multilingual Better extendable for the future
17. Conclusion Happy to do it, but we lost time making drupal the way the design needed. But gained a lot of time on implementing many aspects with the default “drupal building blocks”
18. Discussion What kind of experiences did you have?Who went from Custom to Drupal? Did any one of go from Drupal to Custom? And why? ???
