2. Carly Jo Jackson | State of the Industry
Section 4
1. General evaluation of the genre.
Carly Jo is a Pop / Rock artist. This genre of music is booming and is currently the most
popular style of music for youth culture. The best thing about this genre is that Pop music is
universal. The Pop genre has opened door for several artists that speak English as a second
language. Latin Pop &K-Pop are different styles of Pop music geared towards the Latin market
and Korean market. Overall, Pop music is one of the top genres of music.
2. Sales of recordings in the genre.
As of 2012, 23% of tracks sold were from the Pop genre, according to (Caulfield, 2012).
12 of the top 20 digital songs of this year were from the Pop genre. Last year, 14 of the top 20
were from the Pop genre, And this year, the Pop genre is outweighed by Rock music. The Rock
genre represents 24% of songs for this year in 2012 (Caulfield, 2012) but for Carly Jo, her genre
and style of music is a mixture of both Pop & Rock music.
3. Sales of tickets within the genre
In this industry for this genre, ticket sales are hard to come by when you are an artist that
fans like. For example, Justin Bieber sold all of his concerts in both the U.S. and Canada within
one hour. The Pop genre is a classic genre that has supportive fan base. For the most part every
pop artist relevant is doing well today.
4. Opportunities for new artists within the genre
Carly Jo is young and has time to establish but is also ready. This Pop genre is geared
towards young teens. This audience of Pop genre teens have the power of money, which they get
from their parents; parents will be their kids anything if they complain about it enough. Overall,
3. Carly Jo has potential to be a new raising Pop/Rock star. Once established as an artist, there will
definitely be more entrepreneurial routes for Carly Jo.
5. Audience ratings for radio. Her genre acoustic, pop, rock and indie

Canada would be a very great start for an international tour because Canada has a large
population for Carly’s Jo’s target audience. Canada is also known for having numerous amounts
of festivals. According to 2camels.com there are atleast 91 festivals every year. This figure
shows that the entertainment in Canada is very important. Therefore Carly Jo would have a lot of
opportunities to be apart of the different festivals that happen over the course of time.
7. Competition with other forms of entertainment.
● Sports events
● Theme parks
● Blockbuster movie releases
● Art Festival
8. Values of the target market.
Carly Jo’s target audiences are the individuals that are very technologically advanced
when it comes to the Internet, blogging, viral videos and social media presence. This group of
individuals can also be known as the generation Y. The generation Y audience is the audience

the day, week or weekend. They also spend their time updating their Facebook page every 30
minutes to 3 hrs. This group of individuals views the Internet as a necessity. Therefore we also
view the Internet as a necessity.
9. Plans to reach target market.
Because of the rapid development of Internet and mobile technology, social media
marketing is our main focus for reaching Carly Jo’s target audience. Therefore our plan is to get
her info such as: bios, videos, songs, tour dates and social media sites on some of the most
visited social media and internet hot spots. We will be using mediums and sites such as Youtube,
