• Oral cancer is the sixth most common
cancer in the world


ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS
• Two important etiology factors are tobacco use
and alcohol consumption


OTHER FACTORS
• Diet lacking certain elements
• Eg. Vit A, Vit C etc.,
• Viruses
- HPV 16
- EBV


• Oral cancer are associated with
increasing age.
• Rate use after the age of 40 years
• Reaches a plateau around the age of
60 years


• Although, the use of tobacco and alcohol are
major independent risk factors for oral cancer.
• Yet not all heavy tobacco users and alcohol
consumers do not develop the disease nor the
latent period the same.
