Downtown Flushing Framework
1. Downtown Flushing Framework In 2004, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Department of City Planning (DCP) of New York City launched the Downtown Flushing Framework to enact large scale improvements in the area.
2. 1. Flushing Commons Municipal Lot 1 will become Flushing Commons. Developers are TDC Development LLC, which was the force behind Queens Crossing Development, and Rockefeller Group. Flushing Commons will include mixed retail, residential, and commercial development. Parking for 1,600 cars will also be provided. It will accommodate the new location of the YMCA, and feature a town square with water fountains and greenery.
3. 2. Willets Point The city is using eminent domain to seize auto body and industrial use shops in the “Iron Triangle.” The plan for Willets Point calls for the construction of a new 61-acre neighborhood, a convention center, a hotel, entertainment venues, open space, and even a public school.
4. 3. The Flushing Waterfront A pedestrian bridge would link the Waterfront to Downtown Flushing and Willets Point, as well as Corona. Along with more housing opportunities and commercial possibilities, the proposed project would enable waterfront access.
