Inductive sensors for ATEX 3D
(zone 22) and 3G (zone 2).
EU-wide explosion protection
The ATEX directive 94/9/EC (ATEX) sets out detailed rules
for explosion prevention.
This sensor family passed a very demanding test series of
artificial ageing, 4 joules impact test and subsequent
protection rating test. The result: the sensor housings are
designed to ensure that, even in the toughest conditions
they will not become an ignition source in explosive dusts
or gaseous atmospheres. This guarantees maximum pro-
tection in hazardous areas.
Only safe with the matching connection
ifm ecolink series connectors also comply with the strict
requirements of the standard and are therefore allowed
for use in hazardous areas of the categories 2D, 3D and
3G.

Safe state is reached when
damped.
Applications
The safety function of the sensor allows the user to solve
some applications easier than before. If there is no metal in
the sensor field, the outputs are enabled. If there is metal
in the sensor field, the outputs are safely switched off.
Example crane bridge monitoring
A fail-safe sensor monitors the position of the crane on
the rail. So far the sensor was damped across the whole
travel; the sensor was undamped only at the stop posi-
tions. This new fail-safe sensor allows mounting of only
one damping element each at the beginning and the
end of the crane bridge which saves material and moun-
ting cost.
Fail-safe inductive sensor without
magnetic or coded target.
2 OSSD outputs for connection to a safety
relay or safety PLC.
Diagnosis of different operating states
via LED indication.
Easy integration in the machine due to
flush mounting.
Certified to ISO 13849-1 PL d,

Sensor damped:
The definition of the safety function is new: The safe
state is reached when the damping element (5) is within
the safe switch-off distance of < 5 mm (2) is new. The
outputs A1 and A2 are switched off (logic "0").
Sensor undamped:
If the damping element (5) is in the enable zone (4) at a
distance of > 10 mm of the sensing face and if there is
no sensor fault, both outputs (OSSD) are enabled (logic
"1").
Inadmissible zone
Between the safe switch-off distance (2) of < 5mm and
the enable zone (4) of > 10 mm there is the inadmissible
zone (3).
The user has to take measures to exclude the presence
of the damping element in this zone.

Now in full-metal housing:
Reliable switch point even in the
event of mechanical tolerances.
Full-metal magnetic sensors for early detection of
approaching objects.
Use in hygienic areas and the food industry
Magnetic sensors can be installed behind covers of stain-
less steel, non-ferrous metal, plastic, wood or glass which
ensures inexpensive and fast mounting. There is no
need for bore holes or flush installation.
The sensors are also used for cleaning pipes to detect
pigs through pipe walls.
Mechanically demanding applications
Thanks to the tolerant response behaviour, reliable switch-
point detection is also ensured with high mechanical
tolerances. Long-life applications can be found on tele-
scope and swivel arms or industrial trucks for example.
Long sensing ranges even through
non-magnetisable metals.
No mutual interference of the sensors.
Temperature-stable and reproducible

Capacitive touch sensors for
installation on walls.
Technology
The capacitive measuring principle detects an approaching
human hand. Dynamic touch sensors suppress interfer-
ence such as water, layers of ice or foreign bodies to a
large extent. However, a gloved hand will still trigger them.
Static touch sensors detect hands and objects for as long
as the sensing face is damped. Touch sensors also work
through glass. Compared to mechanical switches the sen-
sors operate without wear. Since they react to contact,
no pressure is required for activation which means con-
siderably increased ease of use.
Non-contact switching, no pressure
necessary, wear and tear-free.
Optical feedback by LEDs in case of
switching.
Oil-resistant; protection rating IP 69K;
impact and scratch resistant.

Object detection of gear parts
No interference caused by extraneous light
The new generation of the popular O1D sensors with the
innovative on-chip time-of-flight measurement system
based on PMD technology (Photonic Mixer Device) oper-
ates reliably with extraneous light of up to 100,000 lux.
This exceeds the values of standard optical sensors many
times over and corresponds to the light conditions on a
bright summer day with direct sunlight.
These sensors can be used in workshops where daylight
hits the sensor or target from above. Even reflective
objects such as metal surfaces are reliably detected or
reflective strips on high-vis vests reliably suppressed.
PMD distance sensors O1D
now insensitive to extraneous
light up to 100,000 lux.
Optical distance detection with a range of
up to 10 m.
2 switching outputs; one output can be
configured as analogue output.
Scalable detection range and
window function.
Can be used in applications needing
background suppression.
Extensive range of fixing components.

Combined oil moisture and
temperature sensor.
Application
Water is generally not wanted in hydraulic liquids and
lubricants. High concentrations of water can seriously
affect operation or even cause damage.
Measuring principle
The sensor measures the relative humidity in the oil in
the range of 0...100 % by means of a capacitive measur-
ing element. At 0 % the oil is absolutely without any
water content. At 100 %, however, the medium is com-
pletely saturated. No more water is dissolved and is then
present as free water.
Besides the relative humidity the sensor also outputs the
medium temperature as an analogue signal.
Continuous condition monitoring of oils.
Two analogue outputs (4...20 mA) for
relative humidity and temperature.
Wide input voltage range 9...33 V DC.
Medium temperature -20...100 °C.
G 3/4" process connection for direct
mounting.

Measurement of liquids
up to 180 °C.
Process cooling in an induction furnace.
Mechatronic flow sensor
The flow sensor works to the principle of spring-support-
ed piston: the piston, located in the valve seat in the
housing, is lifted by the flowing medium against the
spring resistance. The piston position is monitored via a
magnetic-field sensor and is output as an analogue signal.
The spring resistance forces the piston to return to its
original position with decreasing flow. This ensures posi-
tion-independent installation of the flow sensor preven-
ting backflow.
Due to the temperature decoupling of the transducer
from the electronics, this sensor is especially suitable for
media in high temperature applications of up to 180 °C.
The units are maintenance-free.
For flow ranges of 0.3...25 l/min.
Analogue output signal 4...20 mA.
Simple and robust.
Fast response time ≤ 10ms.
Pressure ranges up to 15 bar.

Space-saving ATEX
control monitor with
wire-break alarm.
Flow and temperature monitoring in gas supply pipes.
Easy handling and high functionality
A pushbutton is used to set the flow range and adjust
the switch. Nominal flow range and the switch point are
indicated locally by a multicolour LED display. In addition,
the user can set a temperature switch point. The signals
are output via potential-free relays.
In combination with the SP flow probes this monitor
offers high repeatability of the switch points. Separate
response settings for liquids and gases ensure the set up
is tailored to its medium. The integrated teach function
allows the flow monitor to be further individually adapt-
ed to differing applications.
Integrated wire-break monitoring between flow probes
and the monitor plus electronic locking of the settings
provide additional safety and full confidence in the out-
put status.
For all sensors of the type SP.

flow directly (according to ISO 2533 and DIN 1343). This
makes corrections, in case of temperature or pressure
fluctuations, unnecessary. The high measurement dy-
namics of the system enable the reliable detection of even
minute quantities, e.g. leakage. High accuracy and repeat-
ability are ensured by the integration of the measure-
ment sensor’s key elements into a defined pipe length.

On-site control monitor
for the flexible connection of
flow sensors.
Flow monitoring in a return pipe with
a large nominal width.
High flexibility
Standardised M12 connections are used to connect con-
trol monitor and sensor as well as the supply. This allows
the use of an evaluation and display unit in different
applications, e.g. for different immersion depths and a
wide range of aggressive liquids.
Easy handling and high functionality
Adjustment to the flow and setting of the switch points
are carried out by pressing a pushbutton. Flow and switch
point are indicated by a multicolour LED display. High re-
peatability of the switch points offers an optimum choice
for use.
Electronic locking of the settings and factory reset of the
parameters provide additional safety.

different immersion depths.
For sensors made of ceramics,
high-grade stainless steel and titanium.
Teach button allows easy scaling
of the measuring range.
Flow and switch point are indicated
by LEDs directly on the unit.
Available in DC and AC versions.
Modular flow monitoring for
field applications.

PN7 pressure sensor upgraded with IO-Link
IO-Link is a simple, point-to-point, communication pro-
tocol between an IO-Link enabled device, such as a sen-
sor or actuator, and an IO-Link master.
IO-Link advantages
The IO-Link circuit allows the process measurement data,
parameters and diagnostic information to be transmitted
using the standard connection cable. For example, the
pressure measurement can be transferred as a digital value
directly to the PLC. The measurement is more accurate,
free from conversion errors.
IO-Link masters can also store the set up parameters of
their sensors. If the original sensor is damaged, then the
IO-Link master will recognise its "blank" replacement and
automatically download the stored set up into the newly
connected sensor, saving time and avoiding errors.

Flush design for
hygienic applications.
Pressure monitoring in hygienic areas.
Flexible: 2, 3 or 4 wires
The pressure sensors of the PI27/ PI28 series with clearly
visible LED display can not only be connected as 3- or 4-
wire units but also as 2-wire units in a current loop. This
reduces the wiring complexity in new installations and
facilitates exchange in existing 2-wire connections.
Flush and hygienic
The full-metal version of the PI pressure sensor is now
also available with conical G1 process connection in
addition to the Aseptoflex Vario connection available so
far. It is also possible to use it for flush installation when
using an adapter. It can also be used for hygienic appli-
cations. This makes it easier to exchange units in existing
installations.
Process connection G1 Aseptoflex Vario
or G1 conical.
Programmable analogue output
in 2-wire operation.
Additional switching output in
3/4-wire operation.
High overall accuracy (0.2 %) and
electronic temperature compensation.
High temperature resistance, therefore
suitable for SIP and CIP processes.
2-wire pressure sensor with display,
parameter setting via IO-Link.

Increased confidence in process quality.
The use of two different sensor elements which monitor
each other in the process ensures that a developing sen-
sor drift is immediately detected and reliably diagnosed.
Furthermore, if one element fails, the process continues
with the second measuring element (backup function).
Application
As an extension to the applications, the tried-and-tested
and self-monitoring TAD temperature sensors are com-
plemented by another probe length (50 mm).

Type TP:
Modular transmitter –
great benefit.
Minimised installation and error sources.
Because of the use of two standardised M12 connec-
tions, the installation complexity of the TP temperature
plug is reduced to a minimum as compared to a common
head / DIN rail transmitter. Furthermore, error sources such
as cable clamps are eliminated.
Versatile use.
Thanks to 4-wire Pt100 / Pt1000 evaluation, the trans-
mitter can also be connected to a Pt element using con-
nection cables. Due to its small size, it is also suited for
harsh applications, because it can be installed in a safe
position.
In addition the scalability of the TP between -50...300 °C,
using the USB interface E30396 allows individual adapta-
tion of the measuring range to almost any application.
Small, light housing with
M12 connections.
Reduced mounting complexity and
error sources.
Scalable Pt100 / Pt1000 evaluation from
-50...300 °C.
Status LED signals the operating status.
Full potting and ecolink M12 technology
guarantee high vibration resistance.

Diagnostic electronics with
fast reaction time,
detects machine crash < 1 ms.
Crash monitoring of machine tool spindle.
Machine monitoring
The diagnostic electronics type VSE offers a range of
functions for early detection of damage and machine
protection. Examples are detection of unbalance, moni-
toring of overall vibration and bearing condition as well
as trend analysis with integrated history function and
condition counters.
This increases machine availability, secures quality and
makes maintenance planable.
Machine protection
An important aspect of machine monitoring is permanent
machine protection. This avoids costly subsequential dam-
ages and reduces maintenance costs. Additional process
monitoring avoids waste and increases efficiency.
An additional software is available for the simple inte-
gration into Linux and Windows based PLCs.

Redundant pulse
evaluation system for safe
standstill monitoring.
Operating principle
The standstill monitor is a pulse evaluation system for
safe detection of underspeed or standstill. It receives the
pulses from the pulse pick-ups connected on the inputs.
The μPs calculate the pulse sequence time and the re-
sulting frequency according to the principle of interval
measurement. By continuously comparing the input fre-
quency (actual value) and the switch point (preset value)
the evaluation system promptly detects standstill and the
output relays switch according to the preset switching
function.
Switching function
In accordance with "safe" standstill signalling, the relays
are energised when the event occurs. The relays switch
when the actual value falls below the activated preset
value by e.g. 5 %. The NO contacts of the relays are
connected in "series" and connected to the terminals.

Technical dataSafety
If during operation a mechanical or electrical error cau-
ses one sensor to fail, there will be an interruption of
the pulse sequence. In accordance with "safe" stand-
still monitoring this is not considered as underspeed.
The relays do not switch.
Sensor monitoring:
The function and the behaviour of the sensors are moni-
tored dynamically and subjected to a plausibility check.
• By permanently comparing the pulses it is evaluated
whether the pulse sequences of both sensors differ
from each other (f1 ≠ f2).
• The arrangement of the mark-to-space ratio of the
damping cams and gaps ensures that at no time are
both sensors undamped but at least one sensor is
always damped.
• Switch points:
Via an external circuit a switch point from among 4
preset values (2 Hz, 1 Hz, 0.5 Hz and 0.2 Hz) can be
selected.
• Feedback contact:
The device monitors the position of an interlock by
means of a feedback contact. When a movement starts,
the output relays K1/K2 are de-energised. The switching
outputs open. The output LEDs K1/ K2 flash when the
feedback contact is open.
• Error message:
If faults such as described for "sensor monitoring" are
detected by the μPs, the relays are kept in the "safe
status" (no standstill message), the LED "Fault" lights
and the output switches (opens).

ecolink –
a new dimension in connection technology.
For hygienic and wet areas
in the food industry.
ecolink M12 for demanding applications.
Most applications require special solutions. Only high-
quality materials, safe production processes and fault-
less mounting lead to success in the long run.
The integrated end stop protects the O-ring against
destruction caused by tightening the nut too much.
Mounting and removal are carried out without tools.
The asymmetrically acting vibration protection holds the
nut tight in its position, guaranteeing an optimum and
permanent seal.
High-quality materials especially adapted to the applica-
tion and intensive monitoring during and after produc-
tion guarantee maximum quality standards.

Functions
The AS-i safety monitor controls, in the AS-i network,
the code sequences which are to be transmitted. In the
case of message deviations or timeouts it ensures the
safe state of the system. The unit has two safe semi-con-
ductor outputs. It is possible to trigger up to six further
safe outputs independently in the field.
The AS-i safety monitor can be integrated into the AS-i
system at any position. Several AS-i safety monitors can
be operated via one AS-i master. So grouping is possible
to evaluate the safe AS-i slaves without problem.
Known safety relay functions like "e-stop", "stop cat-
egories 0 or 1", "two-hand operation", "enable switch"
can be implemented via the software. One AS-i safety
monitor thus replaces many traditional safety relays.
Advantages and customer benefits
Due to the extension of Safety at Work safe and non
safe I/O signals can be transmitted via the same AS-i
bus. The safety-related extension is fully downward
compatible and can be retrofitted on existing installa-
tions. All masters, power supplies and bus components
can still be used.
Application
There is a wide range of applications for the new genera-
tion of the AS-i Safety at Work safety monitors. Wherever
a decentralised safety technology is important, AS-i safety
monitors can be used. In conveying, special machines,
handling and the food industry these safety-related as-
semblies have established themselves.

Applications
The new ifm RFID system platform can be used in pro-
duction for quality assurance such as for electronic route
cards, in assembly/handling technology for the automo-
tive industry and in conveying.
The RFID system is optimised for applications in
• production control
• asset management

• track&trace
All connections have industrial-compatible M12 connec-
tions. Current is supplied directly via an M12 connection.
The fast and easy integration into the higher-level auto-
mation/process control is effected by means of provided
program examples. Complex identification tasks are as
easy to implement as reading a simple UID.
As an option the RFID antenna inputs can also be used
for controlling outputs or detecting input signals. The
ifm standard configuration ensures that no complex
wiring is necessary. The connected sensors/actuators are
supplied directly from the RFID evaluation unit.
The RFID system features a robust housing in the high
protection rating IP 67 and a broad temperature range
thus meeting the requirements of harsh industrial envi-
ronments.
The comprehensive accessories such as Profibus connec-
tion cables and terminating resistors further facilitate
the system set-up.

  • 6. 6 Inductive sensors for ATEX 3D (zone 22) and 3G (zone 2). EU-wide explosion protection The ATEX directive 94/9/EC (ATEX) sets out detailed rules for explosion prevention. This sensor family passed a very demanding test series of artificial ageing, 4 joules impact test and subsequent protection rating test. The result: the sensor housings are designed to ensure that, even in the toughest conditions they will not become an ignition source in explosive dusts or gaseous atmospheres. This guarantees maximum pro- tection in hazardous areas. Only safe with the matching connection ifm ecolink series connectors also comply with the strict requirements of the standard and are therefore allowed for use in hazardous areas of the categories 2D, 3D and 3G. product news The 4 joules impact test guarantees high mechanical stability of the housing. Full metal sensors as threaded M12, M18 and M30 types. M12 connector ecolink for ATEX categories 2D / 3D / 3G. High vibration and shock resistance. Maximum protection in hazardous areas. • 8. 8 Safe state is reached when damped. Applications The safety function of the sensor allows the user to solve some applications easier than before. If there is no metal in the sensor field, the outputs are enabled. If there is metal in the sensor field, the outputs are safely switched off. Example crane bridge monitoring A fail-safe sensor monitors the position of the crane on the rail. So far the sensor was damped across the whole travel; the sensor was undamped only at the stop posi- tions. This new fail-safe sensor allows mounting of only one damping element each at the beginning and the end of the crane bridge which saves material and moun- ting cost. Fail-safe inductive sensor without magnetic or coded target. 2 OSSD outputs for connection to a safety relay or safety PLC. Diagnosis of different operating states via LED indication. Easy integration in the machine due to flush mounting. Certified to ISO 13849-1 PL d, IEC 61508 SIL 2 and IEC 62061 SIL cl2. Safe detection of metal. • 12. 12 Capacitive touch sensors for installation on walls. Technology The capacitive measuring principle detects an approaching human hand. Dynamic touch sensors suppress interfer- ence such as water, layers of ice or foreign bodies to a large extent. However, a gloved hand will still trigger them. Static touch sensors detect hands and objects for as long as the sensing face is damped. Touch sensors also work through glass. Compared to mechanical switches the sen- sors operate without wear. Since they react to contact, no pressure is required for activation which means con- siderably increased ease of use. Non-contact switching, no pressure necessary, wear and tear-free. Optical feedback by LEDs in case of switching. Oil-resistant; protection rating IP 69K; impact and scratch resistant. Easy wiring thanks to tried-and-tested 3-wire technology. • 24. 24 Combined oil moisture and temperature sensor. Application Water is generally not wanted in hydraulic liquids and lubricants. High concentrations of water can seriously affect operation or even cause damage. Measuring principle The sensor measures the relative humidity in the oil in the range of 0...100 % by means of a capacitive measur- ing element. At 0 % the oil is absolutely without any water content. At 100 %, however, the medium is com- pletely saturated. No more water is dissolved and is then present as free water. Besides the relative humidity the sensor also outputs the medium temperature as an analogue signal. Continuous condition monitoring of oils. Two analogue outputs (4...20 mA) for relative humidity and temperature. Wide input voltage range 9...33 V DC. Medium temperature -20...100 °C. G 3/4" process connection for direct mounting. • 26. 26 Measurement of liquids up to 180 °C. Process cooling in an induction furnace. Mechatronic flow sensor The flow sensor works to the principle of spring-support- ed piston: the piston, located in the valve seat in the housing, is lifted by the flowing medium against the spring resistance. The piston position is monitored via a magnetic-field sensor and is output as an analogue signal. The spring resistance forces the piston to return to its original position with decreasing flow. This ensures posi- tion-independent installation of the flow sensor preven- ting backflow. Due to the temperature decoupling of the transducer from the electronics, this sensor is especially suitable for media in high temperature applications of up to 180 °C. The units are maintenance-free. For flow ranges of 0.3...25 l/min. Analogue output signal 4...20 mA. Simple and robust. Fast response time ≤ 10ms. Pressure ranges up to 15 bar. • 30. 30 Compressed air meter with display and totalizer function. Argon consumption measurement in a laser welding system. Calorimetric measuring principle The compressed air meter detects the standard volume flow directly (according to ISO 2533 and DIN 1343). This makes corrections, in case of temperature or pressure fluctuations, unnecessary. The high measurement dy- namics of the system enable the reliable detection of even minute quantities, e.g. leakage. High accuracy and repeat- ability are ensured by the integration of the measure- ment sensor’s key elements into a defined pipe length. Measuring compressed air consumption in air supply lines We offer additional compressed air sensors for larger measuring ranges on request, especially for supply and air supply lines. As an option compressed air sensors with exchangeable electronics, allowing subsequent calibration under oper- ating pressure, can also be used. Measurement to ISO 2533 and DIN 1343 possible. For compressed air in industrial use, argon, carbon dioxide, nitrogen. Large measuring range up to 700 Nm3/h. Larger measuring ranges on request. Fast response time and high response sensitivity. PN7 pressure sensors in hydraulic and pneumatic lines Parameter setting, diagnosis and trans- mission of process values via IO-Link. High switch point accuracy and switching frequency. Ceramic measuring cell for more than 100 million switching operations. Dual independent switching outputs or switching and diagnostic output. Different versions with pressure ranges between -1...600 bar. Pressure sensor with choice of switch points or analogue values. Fluidsensorsanddiagnosticsystems bus, identification and control systems fluid sensors and diagnostic systems position sensors and object recognition PN7 pressure sensor upgraded with IO-Link IO-Link is a simple, point-to-point, communication pro- tocol between an IO-Link enabled device, such as a sen- sor or actuator, and an IO-Link master. IO-Link advantages The IO-Link circuit allows the process measurement data, parameters and diagnostic information to be transmitted using the standard connection cable. For example, the pressure measurement can be transferred as a digital value directly to the PLC. The measurement is more accurate, free from conversion errors. IO-Link masters can also store the set up parameters of their sensors. If the original sensor is damaged, then the IO-Link master will recognise its "blank" replacement and automatically download the stored set up into the newly connected sensor, saving time and avoiding errors. product news

Flexible: 2, 3 or 4 wires The pressure sensors of the PI27/ PI28 series with clearly visible LED display can not only be connected as 3- or 4- wire units but also as 2-wire units in a current loop. This reduces the wiring complexity in new installations and facilitates exchange in existing 2-wire connections. Flush and hygienic The full-metal version of the PI pressure sensor is now also available with conical G1 process connection in addition to the Aseptoflex Vario connection available so far. It is also possible to use it for flush installation when using an adapter. It can also be used for hygienic appli- cations. This makes it easier to exchange units in existing installations. Process connection G1 Aseptoflex Vario or G1 conical. Programmable analogue output in 2-wire operation. Additional switching output in 3/4-wire operation. High overall accuracy (0.2 %) and electronic temperature compensation. High temperature resistance, therefore suitable for SIP and CIP processes. 2-wire pressure sensor with display, parameter setting via IO-Link. • 48. 48 Redundant pulse evaluation system for safe standstill monitoring. Operating principle The standstill monitor is a pulse evaluation system for safe detection of underspeed or standstill. It receives the pulses from the pulse pick-ups connected on the inputs. The μPs calculate the pulse sequence time and the re- sulting frequency according to the principle of interval measurement. By continuously comparing the input fre- quency (actual value) and the switch point (preset value) the evaluation system promptly detects standstill and the output relays switch according to the preset switching function. Switching function In accordance with "safe" standstill signalling, the relays are energised when the event occurs. The relays switch when the actual value falls below the activated preset value by e.g. 5 %. The NO contacts of the relays are connected in "series" and connected to the terminals. Sensor monitoring: The function and the behaviour of the sensors are moni- tored dynamically and subjected to a plausibility check. • By permanently comparing the pulses it is evaluated whether the pulse sequences of both sensors differ from each other (f1 ≠ f2). • The arrangement of the mark-to-space ratio of the damping cams and gaps ensures that at no time are both sensors undamped but at least one sensor is always damped. • Switch points: Via an external circuit a switch point from among 4 preset values (2 Hz, 1 Hz, 0.5 Hz and 0.2 Hz) can be selected. • Feedback contact: The device monitors the position of an interlock by means of a feedback contact. When a movement starts, the output relays K1/K2 are de-energised. The switching outputs open. The output LEDs K1/ K2 flash when the feedback contact is open. • Error message: If faults such as described for "sensor monitoring" are detected by the μPs, the relays are kept in the "safe status" (no standstill message), the LED "Fault" lights and the output switches (opens). ≥5xD D D 3xD Meets the requirements of: ISO 13849-1: Category 4 ISO 13849-1: PL e EN 62061: SIL 3 For further technical data please go to: www.ifm.com

  • 57. 57 11.2011 The products Description Order no. Functions The AS-i safety monitor controls, in the AS-i network, the code sequences which are to be transmitted. In the case of message deviations or timeouts it ensures the safe state of the system. The unit has two safe semi-con- ductor outputs. It is possible to trigger up to six further safe outputs independently in the field. The AS-i safety monitor can be integrated into the AS-i system at any position. Several AS-i safety monitors can be operated via one AS-i master. So grouping is possible to evaluate the safe AS-i slaves without problem. Known safety relay functions like "e-stop", "stop cat- egories 0 or 1", "two-hand operation", "enable switch" can be implemented via the software. One AS-i safety monitor thus replaces many traditional safety relays. Advantages and customer benefits Due to the extension of Safety at Work safe and non safe I/O signals can be transmitted via the same AS-i bus. The safety-related extension is fully downward compatible and can be retrofitted on existing installa- tions. All masters, power supplies and bus components can still be used. Application There is a wide range of applications for the new genera- tion of the AS-i Safety at Work safety monitors. Wherever a decentralised safety technology is important, AS-i safety monitors can be used.
