2. ECOSYSTEM
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is made up of two components which is living
things and non living things.
An ecosystem is the relationship between soil, climate,
vegetation and animals in an environment.
Ecosystem recycle nutrients such as carbon and nitrogen.
3. FUNCTION OF ECOSYSTEM
• Ecosystem have some functional attributes which keep
the component parts running together.
• For example; green leaves prepare food and roots
absorb nutrients from the soil.
• Decomposers carry out the function of braking down
complex organic materials into simple inorganic
product which can be used by procedures.
• All these function in an ecosystem occur through
delicately balanced and controlled processes.
• Thus, this cycle goes on and on, leading to efficient
continuous functioning of the ecosystem.
6. WHY?
• Deforestation
Without plant cover, erosion can occur and sweep the land into rivers.
The agricultural plants that often replace the trees cannot hold
onto the soil and many of these plants.
• Slope stability
The removal of vegetation increases the rate of surface erosion.
• Topography
The topography of the land determines the velocity at which surface
runoff will flow, which in turn determines the erosivity of the
runoff.
10. WHY?
Peer Influence
Characterizes the attitudes, values and behaviors of the youths, particularly the teenage school. Youths
who indulge in vandalism are usually members of a group.
Parents and Family
Vandalism is usually carried out by youths from troubled family backgrounds and who wish to be
independent. Apart from that, the lack of supervision and guidance from parents is among the main factors
that drive teenagers towards this negative phenomenon.
Influence of the Mass Media
The mass media has a strong influence and impact on our daily lives. Western films or programs that
contain negative elements, such as vandalism, can promote this unhealthy phenomenon among youths.
Apathetic, Individualistic and Materialistic behavior among the Society
Vandalism is particularly acute in urban areas. City folks in general are oblivious of their surroundings.
Therefore, those who commit vandalism feel that they can do so with impunity and feel no sense of
responsibility towards public properties.
11. SOLUTIONS
• Educate the public, especially young people about the costs of vandalism.
• Clean up vandalism as soon as it happens -- replace signs, repair playground
equipment, paint over graffiti.
• Remember, vandalism is a crime.
• Support recreational programs for young people in your community. Volunteer
your time, donate money or supplies, and help in any way you can.
