Palin has promoted oil and natural gas resource exploration in Alaska, including in the  Arctic National Wildlife Refuge  (ANWR), [78]  and initiated a lawsuit over the federal listing of the  polar bear [185]  and Cook Inlet  beluga whale  as  endangered specie s. [186]  Palin has stated in the past that she does not believe that  global warming  is  human-caused , but has since clarified her position—saying in September 2008 that "man's activities certainly can be contributing to the issue" and that "John McCain and I agree that we gotta do something about it." Under the Agreement, participating cities commit to take following three actions:  •  Strive to meet or beat the Kyoto Protocol targets in their own communities, through actions ranging from anti-sprawl land-use policies to urban forest restoration projects to public information campaigns;   • Urge their state governments, and the federal government, to enact policies and programs to meet or beat the greenhouse gas emission reduction target suggested for the United States in the Kyoto Protocol -- 7% reduction from 1990 levels by 2012; and   • Urge the U.S. Congress to pass the bipartisan greenhouse gas reduction legislation, which would establish a national emission trading system U.S. Conference of Mayors  Climate Protection Agreement
Mayor of Seattle Greg Nickels Cites Mayors Climate Protection Agreement as Evidence of Mayors’ Climate Commitment In 2007 Nickels said, “It’s been more than two years since I initiated the Mayors Climate Agreement and today we heard that more than 728 mayors have pledged to reduce emissions 7 percent below 1990 levels by 2012. Their cities’ population represents one in four people who live the United States.” Nickels noted that Seattle has made tremendous progress in its effort to cut emissions and is on target to meet its climate protection goals.
Sept 1, 2006 Seattle's Mayor, Greg Nickels, proposed the mayors' agreement when Kyoto came into effect at the start of last year. By June 2005, he had 140 signatories, and the number has more than doubled since. The goal is to "meet or exceed" the Kyoto target of cutting global warming pollution to 7 per cent below 1990 levels by 2012.

Mayor of Seattle Greg Nickels Cites Mayors Climate Protection Agreement as Evidence of Mayors’ Climate Commitment In 2007 Nickels said, “It’s been more than two years since I initiated the Mayors Climate Agreement and today we heard that more than 728 mayors have pledged to reduce emissions 7 percent below 1990 levels by 2012. Their cities’ population represents one in four people who live the United States.” Nickels noted that Seattle has made tremendous progress in its effort to cut emissions and is on target to meet its climate protection goals.
  • 9. Sept 1, 2006 Seattle's Mayor, Greg Nickels, proposed the mayors' agreement when Kyoto came into effect at the start of last year. By June 2005, he had 140 signatories, and the number has more than doubled since. The goal is to "meet or exceed" the Kyoto target of cutting global warming pollution to 7 per cent below 1990 levels by 2012.
