In the traditional model, large players in the Internet today are keeping their own ecosystem around their core businesses. We call it the “internet of giants” where large islands of separated ecosystems around these global players are using the Internet, but act only loosely coupled.TEXO elaborated on how to break up these inflexible structures, allowing interchange of services across industry and business domains. The research conducted within the TEXO use case depicts an “Internet of Services” where service providers offer services on the Internet, collaborate, bundle and combine services and finally bring specialized and personalized services to the end-users and consuming parties in order to fulfill their business needs.TEXO additionally researched how to provide the core platform enabling this ecosystem to deliver and execute services automatically and support them via IT infrastructures.TEXO discovered the need of a unified description of services where technical, operational and business aspects of services are captured to support all involved roles in these new value-chains. The Language is called USDL – unified sevice description language.[click]The service ecosystem can broaden its scope and provide reuse of manual and IT-based services across industry boundaries.[click]This will drive the industrialization of complete service domains. The service providers are empowered to redistribute their services within this open ecosystem for a plural development of the complete industry sector in the Internet. This has benefits for all involved parties. The needs of end-users are addressed efficiently and in an agile way. The market in general is more productive and the processes spanning across businesses are enabled and supported.USDL as central description language for services within the Internet is currently been driven to standardization by a large community of companies coming out of TEXO and the ecosystem around the “Internet of Services”. This lingua franca will enable the paradigm: Describe once, deploy everywhere and enable the new value chains within the service ecosystem.
