Wiki first heard about UC through a friend, who recommended the university saying, there was a very multicultural and
friendly atmosphere, with a very high standard of teaching specifically mentioning the great degree of extra time and
personal attention made available by lecturers and tutors to students. He felt there was a consensus among his friends
that they “felt connected with the staff”, who took time to address their concerns. His review of the curriculum further
pushed him toward UC over Curtin University and University of Western Australia, which he felt had a less practical
approach. The University of Canberra curriculum, he felt took a more realistic approach in addressing industry realities.
Upon arriving he found to his great liking the extensive library and the most up to date technologies. He has completed his
first semester at UC and feels really connected with the lecturers, who promoted class discussion on a regular basis. He
feels fully integrated into the Ascott House Residential 'micro community', the size and the frequency of social events in
the community has kept his interactions primarily with in the community but not limited to it. He got the opportunity to
try his hand at fishing and decided he had a love for the hobby and took it up with one of the friends he met at the UC gym,
on alternate Sundays. He has stayed in touch with all the students from back home and regularly meets up with those who
came down to Canberra, but greatly expanded his sphere of multicultural interactions and experiences at the same time,

Back in Pakistan, I did a lot of research on different study options for Australia. I have a friend who
had already completed his Advanced Diploma of IT at NMIT, and he recommended I consider
study at NMIT. I then asked HR Consultants about NMIT, and they confirmed that NMIT has an
excellent reputation for providing high quality programs.
HR counselor advised me to bring my IELTS results, I had 6.0, and my Intermediate Certificate to
their office, so I did this. The staff at HR were really helpful and professional and did everything for me to apply for the visa
and to apply to NMIT. Then about 3 months later, I remember receiving a call from HR Consultants to tell me my visa to
study in Australia had been granted. I was so happy about this, but also remember feeling sad about travelling away from
family and friends to make a future for myself. This was to be a big change for me, I had never been away from my family
home for more than 1 week before this!
Now, I'm 1 month into the Advanced Diploma if Information Technology at NMIT and living in Melbourne. I am still
finding the Australian accent a little difficult at times to understand, but this is getting easier every day. My teachers are
making the course interesting and they are easy to approach.
