Migraine Relief, says Study

results of a study
by plastic and
reconstructive
surgeons from the
Louisiana State
University (LSU) Health Sciences Center, Massachusetts
General Hospital and Harvard Medical School which
showed that aesthetic surgery to improve the appearance of
the eyelids can provide relief from migraine too. They
found that more than 90 percent of the patients on whom
they performed this surgery to decompress the nerves that
cause migraines got relief from the condition and also got
cosmetic eyelid surgery as a bonus.
Statistics show that more than 5% of men and 17% of
women in the United States experience migraine
headaches. Women aged 18-44 are affected the most, with
about 26.1% having severe headaches or 3-month
prevalence of migraine.

All of the thirty-five patients who participated in the study
had chronic nerve compression migraine headaches. The
main points noted by the surgeons are as follows:
• A high 90.7% success rate for the surgery performed
via incisions through the upper eyelid instead of the
usual endoscopic technique
• In 51.3% of the patients, migraine headaches were
totally eliminated, and about a fifth of these patients
experienced an 80% reduction of symptoms
• Almost one-third of the patients got relief from 50-
80% of their symptoms
The appearance of the eyes has a significant impact on

eyelid surgery is an important component of a facial
rejuvenation package. In upper Blepharoplasty, incisions
are placed on the skin of the upper eyelids to remove
