Strand - Societal/Ethical Issues I feel that it is important to know what kind of technology is in your classroom. If the teacher was able to choose a new computer and other computer equipment for the classroom she would be more eager to use them and incorporate technology in her lessons. You wouldn’t ask for things that you couldn’t find a use for or didn’t know how to work. In my budget, I put in a smart board because I feel that all second grade teachers should have one in their classroom. This piece of technology allows the teacher to model more lessons in front of the classroom. The teacher could draw a diagram or pull up a power point by the touch of the finger never leaving the front of the classroom. Using technology is becoming more and more common in the classroom. At UNCW, I have yet to be in a classroom that did not have some sort of projector for the computer. It helps you move through a lesson more efficiently and quickly gains the students’ attention. When I was in middle school and high school, the teacher had to keep switching overhead sheets and by the time they found the one they were looking for someone in the class was either passing a note to a friend or texting on their phone. The teacher should be a part of the decision making process in technology because the teacher knows what she is going to teach and how to get the students motivated to learn. You wouldn’t want someone to order for you at a restaurant so why should someone order your supplies when they don’t know your teaching style. Teachers should take technology workshops at least once a year to keep them informed about new technology.
