EVALUATION QUESTION TWO
1. ESTION TWO - How does your media product represent particular so
2. In our film “SALTUS” The main character is a female from England.
A female lead protagonist in a action/adventure, Sci-fi thriller is very
subversive as these types of genres don’t often have a female lead
role - this role is normally occupied by a handsome, muscular male.
In these types of films the female would normally be the
heroine/“damsel in distress”. Harlow Reeve has had a very difficult
life which is revealed later on in the film. Harlow is quite an
introverted person and is often seen of her own, this is shown in the
OTS as well as the fact that she doesn't speak - this also make her
seen more mysterious and builds the tension.
Harlow Reeve feels like an outsider, as she is an orphan with no
family and is even more ostracised having supernatural powers;
being able to teleport. She fells as though she doesn't have any one
to tell and she cant tell anyone. This highlights the isolation she has
felt her whole life. Harlow Lives her live invisibly so when the
unwanted media attention arrived it sends her on a downward spiral.
I think the way she dresses and her attitude mirrors this, as she
wears clothes that wont get her noticed and her attitude is very
minute and laid back. So when she becomes negligent with her
powers and her secret is out she stops at nothing to hide her identity.
Overall Harlow is represented as an everyday teen (which is ironic
as we know she is not) - we purposely made the decision of making
our protagonist a girl to be subversive with the casting choice. To
compromise we have made her evidently quite “Tomboyish” and
edgy with what she wears to mirror her supernatural power. i Think
with the plot and if the character would have been a real ‘girly girl’ in
dresses and skirts it would have taken the subversiveness to a
comical degree whereby the film and Harlow Reeve isn't taken
seriously.
By making her a teenager we though this would add a relatedness to
the character with the audience as no one can teleport.
3. We have created a product aimed at both genders and particularly
aimed at teenagers however it would reach a wider audience
including families/Children (12A). As our Media Product isn't aimed
at a particular audience or country we believe our product could be
distributed world wide so we would need the help of a Global
Subsidiary to help distribute our Media Product. We have aimed our
OTS and Film for both Male and Female. We think the action will
attract a male audience where as the subversive female role will
attract a a female audience. We specifically designed a film made for
both genders. Our OTS is aimed at a mass audience with this in
mind we created “production” and “distribution” companies specific to
looking like they are made for mass audience blockbuster films - we
did this by looking at logos, names etc. We are targeting no particular
age, country etc…
Our Psychographic in terms of movies the interests of our target
audience will have to be action/adventure thriller films as well as Sci-
fi. The lifestyle of our chosen demographic must be able to
economically afford to be able to dispose money on leisure and
entertainment or at least have parents that can. Specifically we are
targeting teenagers (although we think it reaches a much wider
audience) so that is why we have chosen D/E on the ABC1 scale.
Overall our Film is targeted at a mass audience.
I have made a video and uploaded a video on Indents showing the
different types of templates you can get - as you can see they
represent mass and niche films. link below.

Rating: As a group we rated our film a 12A - some scenes would be borderline inappropriate however according to the
BBFC parents know their children best and if they deem it appropriate they can see the film with their parents.
Our film was produced by “KLS Picture House Productions” Which would be a subsidiary of a conglomerate. This is
similar to the studio/ distribution company “HAGE” which would also be a global company belonging to a subsidiary.
Both companies would be globally recognised and produce big budget films - these companies would be similar to
those of the “Big Six”.
5. Our group consisted of Four Girls (Amy Whittigham , Erin Barber, Gemma Smith and me
(Heidi Barber). We produced our own Opening Title Sequence - We all shared responsibilities
regarding the whole production (pre and post). We ALL filmed, Directed, Edited.
The majority of Filming was done in London - This is because London is universally
recognised and the mass audience may identify the buildings an surroundings. We specifically
chose very recognised locations like Big Ben and The Tower Of London, Trafalgar Square etc.
