BATTERIES – THE POWER BEHIND THE HEARING AID | CLERMONT FL
1. BATTERIES – THE POWER BEHIND THE HEARING
AID
What type of hearing aid battery does
your instrument need?
Hearing aid batteries vary from hearing
aid to hearing aid. These zinc air
batteries are small, button-like
batteries, similar to that in a watch.
Coded by number and color, batteries are easy to find at your
hearing healthcare provider’s office and pharmacies. Your
provider should indicate to you the number and color associated
with your hearing instrument’s battery at the time of your
hearing aid fitting. Standard number and color coding systems
are used across battery brands.

10 Yellow

675 Blue
These batteries should provide between 10-14 days of power
when worn daily from the time you get up until going to sleep at
night. Most modern hearing aids will indicate low battery with a
specific beep or talking notification. As the battery gets weaker,
you may notice a drop in sound quality.
2. If you battery dies, your hearing aid will no longer work. Battery
testers are handy to keep around to check your power as needed.
Battery insertion and removal may take time to master. Zinc air
batteries for hearing aids are quite small and may be difficult to
maneuver. You will notice that all of these batteries have a flat
positive side and a beveled negative side. A small color coding
sticker will be on the flat side. Remove this sticker tab, and place
the battery flat side up into the battery door. Never put the
battery directly into the hearing aid unless indicated to do so by
your hearing healthcare provider! Carefully close the door. The
door should close easily without force. To remove the battery,
open the battery door and gently slide out or drop out the used
battery. Magnets may be helpful to aid in sliding out the
batteries.
Remember that your battery is a zinc air, activated by exposure
to air. Once you removed the sticker, your battery will begin to
drain immediately. Placing the sticker back on will not stop your
hearing aid battery from draining.
