This document summarizes the Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). The AIG Program aims to provide appropriately challenging education for high-achieving students through differentiated curriculum and instruction. Services are determined by each school's AIG Plan and can include options like resource classes, team teaching, and electives. Students are identified for the AIG Program through screening, nominations, and evaluations of cognitive abilities and achievement test scores. If identified, students receive differentiated instruction through their Differentiated Education Plan.

Share these AIG facts with the parents.
Discuss your particular school plan and service delivery options with your parents.Refer to the AIG School Plan developed by your staff.
Add specific nomination and testing date information for your particular school.
The SBCGE reviews the compiled information from the CogAT and Iowa scores, parent & teacher checklists and student portfolio work samples to make individual student recommendations.
Students are evaluated with two group tests initially and then the SBCGE may request an additional assessment, as needed, to make an informed decision using the formal and informal indicators.
Parents and teachers complete a checklist of characteristics to provide essential information about each referred student.Learning behaviors considers reasoning, logical thinking, communication skills, creativity and memory.Student performance considers current grades in language arts, writing and math; and current work samples in language arts and math.Student interest considers skills or expertise in area/s of interest.Student motivation considers the challenge of learning new and different topics, working independently at higher levels and being a self-starter.
Decisions and service levels will be designated on the student ISP.
Describ your particular school plan as completed with your teachers.Use the school plan to describe your AIG service delivery methods for each grade level as outlined on your AIG School Plan worksheet. (Can use the AIG Plan, AIG Plan Worksheet and the AIG Plan Support document. All documents are found either in the wiki workbook or the AIG Resource Guide in LiveBinders.)MS teachers can share service delivery at their school based on team discussions for the AIG School Plan.
Review the student DEP informationMay make a copy of a blank or partially completed DEP to show parents and refer to during the description of the DEP/DCP.Individual student DEPs will not be available for completion and distribution until late 1st semester.
Discuss your particular school practices using a copy of your completed AIG School Plan.AIG teachers may use the AIG School Plan Support document found in the AIG Resource Guide, 1st Semester tab for assistance with this description. Also refer to Instructional Strategies That Support Differentiation in the AIG Resource Guide, Support Documents tab.
