The inter class competition is launched with a whole school assembly this week. Children earn points by walking, cycling and parking and striding to and from school.
2. During may the green Council under took travel surveys with staff, parents and children of hawes Side primary School.
3. What we found! Parents , children and staff were all concerned about the number of cars near school at the beginning and at the end of the day. Having more cars on the road means more dangers for cyclists and pedestrians. It is also bad for the environment , as cars emit fumes which can damage the air around us.
4.
5. This is great news for your health as walking and cycling are great ways to keep you fit and its great for the environment.
6.
7. What is park and stride? Rather than parents driving all the way to school and clogging up the roads near school. Parents drive part of the way and park in an arranged car park. For us this is the Booths Supermarket car park. Then you can walk the rest of the way to school. This way you get some exercise, the roads around school are safer because there are fewer cars. The environment also benefits as less fuel is consumed and so there is less pollution.
10. A chance for your class to win this fabulous trophy and a special treat every half term and to be crowned Golden Boot champions!
11. Earn points every day for your class by:- Walking to school Cycling to school Riding a scooter to school Using the park and stride scheme. NO points will be awarded for those who come in the car.
12. My parents drive me to school then go to work! Even if you can ask your parents to use the park and stride at least one day a week the points will count and you, your parents and the environment will benefit.
13. I walk every day Well that will count as 5 points – one for each day
14. Every week Green Council members will collect the results for each class
