The document describes the process of designing the front cover of a school magazine using Photoshop. First, a new blank document is selected. Then, a green background color is chosen and faded at the top where the title will go. Next, a red, bold, block capital title is added using the text tool. An image is imported and cropped to fill most of the cover. Finally, cover lines and text are added over shaped boxes and a thinking bubble using various fonts and sizes to draw attention to certain words like "FREE" in the strap line.
2. Starting the production of my
magazine front cover
To design my front cover
page i needed to use a
software called
‘Photoshop.’ this software
has all of the tools I will
need when designing my
front cover for my school
magazine. To begin with i
need to select a new blank
document as I have done
so, shown to the left of this
slide.
3. The main background colour.
By selecting the fill tool I
was able to choose a
background for my front
cover. I chose green as it is
a strong bright colour and
looks good with any text.
This tool also allows you
too fade a colour so i faded
my green colour into a
plain white at the top of
the page where my title
will go, as it adds the
element of creative design
which makes my magazine
unique.
4. Adding a Title
The text tool helped
me to choose a title.
The other tools at the
top of the document
that show when you
select the text tool
allowed me to edit my
text. Therefore i could
make it larger or
smaller, bolder, italic
etc. I made my title
red and bold in block
capitals so it stands
out.
5. Inserting an image
I have inserted an image by pressing file,
Then import and selecting an image
from my desktop which has been saved
in my area. I had to choose an image
that I had taken which was a medium
close up, to ensure that it fitted the
codes and conventions of a front cover
magazine. The image needed to be
fitted at the correct size on the page and
be filling most of it, so it works as a
background for my cover lines etc.
6. Cropping the image
I used the magic wand tool to
take away the background
behind my main focus of my
image which was the boy. It
made my front cover look
neater and allowed me to
stretch the image of the boy to
cover the whole page as it
would on the front cover of a
magazine.
7. Completed Front Cover
I used the text tool to insert text that
I needed to write my cover lines.
The shape tool allowed me to insert
the boxes on to my front cover design
before I added the text that went over
it, it also allowed me to create other
features such as the thinking bubble
and the strap line at the bottom of my
page. I could edit the text by selecting
different fonts and sizes which allowed
me to make certain words stand out for
example the word ‘FREE’ at the bottom
of the page at the start of the strap
line. I needed this word to stand out
because it is what's known as a
‘buzzword,’ which is essential for my
magazine as it is on all of the codes and
conventions for a front cover magazine.
