3. The brief
• Our main task was to create a 5 minute short
film, which then followed onto our ancillary
task whereby we had to create a poster and
film review to advertise and promote our
product. Through the use of my dramatic
pictures and intriguing film review, I have
made our product appealing to our target
audience. As our target audience is the same
age as myself I had a better understanding of
what they want and find alluring .
4. How did my film review successfully
promote my product?
My film review concentrates on giving our target
audience a bigger insight into the life of our character.
By understanding our protagonist’s feelings and
emotions it would then make our audience able to
relate and sympathise with her more. By saying ‘as
YOU live a day in Sam’s shoes’ it makes our audience
believe our film will truly have them engrossed,
putting themselves in Sam’s position. The use of
rhetorical questions such as ‘has Sam Cooper finally
had enough?’ makes our audience want to watch our
short film to find out what happens to her. I purposely
didn’t explain exactly what happened in our film as I
wanted to leave them wanting to no more about our
film. The genre is also made clear throughout my film
review as the story is dramatised and it is clearly
stated that this film will take you on a ‘dramatic
venture’ of Sam’s life. By awarding our film 4 stars it
presents a positive image and expectation of our film.
5. Images used
For both my film review and poster I only
included pictures of our protagonist as she
played the most important part in our short
film, as the storyline focused on her only. My
poster image consisted of a close up shot of
her screaming to show how fed up she is with
the constant torments, also expressing the
pain she has felt throughout her school life.
My review images gives the audience a clue
Film review images as to what the film will be about straight
away as it has a bully line poster and a
distressed close up image of our protagonist’s
face, however the images still leave the
audience curious as to what sort of bullying
may occur. I effectively ensured I didn’t reveal
too much of the plot to our audience through
our images, yet exposed enough of the short
film to keep them wanting to know more. The
dramatic expression on our protagonist’s face
for my poster image also tried to connote
that our genre is a drama.

6. Background
• For my poster I used a school corridor as the background
image, this showed the audience where our short film will
be located and also made our audience able relate to our
short film more. This is due to the fact our target audience
were either at the age of being at school or not long left
school and could remember their school life more easily. I
also made the background image have black and white
effect to represent the tone and mood of the short film to
be very depressing and gloomy; this also reflects the
protagonists feelings and emotions towards her high school
experience.
• In my film review I chose to have a black background to
again expresses the melancholy tone and mood of the film
and main character.
7. Colour scheme
• The main colours I used for both my film
review and poster were black, red and grey. I
used these colours because I felt that red
connoted danger, which our main character
was involved in, and I believe grey and black
are quite dull, miserable colours so I used
them to reflect the mood of the short film as a
whole.
8. Fonts
• I used this font below for both my film review and
poster as its very big and bold which will attract
people to watch our short film, the font was red
because I think it signifies danger. This mirrors the
main theme in our short film as our film is based
around the danger our protagonist is involved in.
The red stood out on both my film review and
poster as they both had dark backgrounds. I
created a shadow behind this text to again signify
the dark disconsolate mood in the short film.
9. Both images here represent the distressing and dejected emotions our
protagonist feels throughout her high school experience, which is effectively
mirrored through our short film.
The red, black
and grey colour
scheme is
clearly used in
both ancillary
tasks.
The web addresses allows the audience
to seek further information about our
film via social networking sites and the
main film site.
10. Conclusion
• In conclusion I think both my ancillary tasks
were effectively created so that they both
mirror the plot in the short film without telling
the audience too much. The purpose was to
keep the audience wanting to know more
about the film. I ensured both my ancillary
tasks linked together so that it was clear my
film review and poster were both mine. Our
main product’s tone is reflected onto both
ancillary tasks.
