The Plains Baboons  Elephants  African Elephants are the largest  land mammal in the world, males growing from 12-13 feet, 7-8 tons (14,000-16,000 lbs)! Elephants grow their whole lives. Their trunks are used to breathe, communicate, lift objects, and the trunk can hold up to 2 gallons of water!  The trunk has two finger-like appendages that can pick up items as small as a dime! Guinea baboons are an Old World Monkey, and the smallest species of baboon. The average age for Guinea baboons is 25-30 yrs.
The Plains Rhinos  Lions  White Rhinos are not named for their color, but by the Afrikaan’s word “weit”, meaning wide mouth. The natural habitat of the White Rhino  is the Savanna Grasslands. Giraffes  The natural habitat of the African Lion is in the rich grasslands and sandy deserts. Most of the hunting is done by the females lions. A lion’s roar can be heard 5 miles away! Their tongues are black and can extend up to 20 inches! Giraffe’s tongues are  able to delicately pluck  leaves while avoiding thorns.

The Forest Tigers Bears The stripes on a tiger’s face is like the thumbprint of a human.  No two are the same! The Siberian Tiger is the largest of all tigers, males weighing up to 616 lbs and growing almost 7ft long! The Kodiak is a species of brown bear, and the largest of the brown bears. The Kodiak bear has one of the most powerful senses of smell in nature.
The Forest Lemurs Gibbons Otters Lemurs enjoy sunbathing! Ring-tailed lemurs live  in a matrilineal society (dominated by a female). Gibbons are found in the upper canopies of Asian forests. Gibbons swing quickly through trees with a hand-over-hand motion called brachiate swinging. Asian Small Clawed Otters are the smallest in the world (2ft long and under 10 lbs). Otters let their collected clams sit in the sun so the shells will open.  Then the otters wash their food  before eating!

The Oceans Because of the dangers of fishermen and pollution, the average life span of a bottlenosed dolphin is 17 years in the wild. In an ideal environment, the potential  age is 40-50 years! Bottlenosed Dolphins  are  classified  as toothed whales! Dolphins  Walruses  Under its layer of skin,  the walrus may have  up to 6 inches of fat! The walrus can dive up to 250 deep,  for as long as 10 minutes, and its sensitive bristles on its mustache  are used to locate food! Click  here  for the walrus cam!
The Oceans Seals Sea Lions Polar Bears  The fur of the polar bear is actually not white.  Each individual hair is a clear, hollow tube.  The reflection from the sun makes the fur appear white over the bear’s black skin.  A polar bear’s stomach Can hold more than 150lbs! Click  here  for the seal/sea lion cam! Grey seals can remain under water for up to 20 minutes at up to 475 ft. Neither male or female seals eat  for the 4-6 week breeding  period. Sea lions have external ear flaps. They come to shore to rest and breed.
