Our Trip to Ireland!
• Emerald Isle
• Two Political Entities: Northern
  Ireland and the Republic of
  Ireland
• Prior to 1921, the entire island
was part of and controlled by
  Britain.
• In 1921, 26 counties in the south
  were given independence and
  became the Republic of Ireland.
• To this day, the UK controls the 6
  counties comprising Northern
  Ireland.
• 70,280 sq km
• Temperate climate: mild winters,
  cool summers; consistently
  humid; overcast about half the
  time.

           Dia Dhiut! Hello!
Heritage & Culture
May you always have work for your hands to do,
May your pockets hold always a coin or two,
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane,
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain,
May the hand of a friend always be near you,
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

                    Bia. Food.
The traditional game of Irish Hurling
Irish Hurling is the best Irish cultured
game next to Gaelic Football. and is
heavily promoted by the Gaelic Athletic
Association (GAA). It’s a fast and ferrous
game that will have you either on the
edge of your seat or jumping in the air
like a crazy. It’s a game that has lots of
history and is played nationally in every
 county.

                                              Traditional sport of Gaelic Football
                                                Gaelic Football is also extremely
popular in Ireland and is played by
many people and again it’s a sport
with much history and is usually
played with plenty of Irish pride. It’s
                                                very similar and sometime compared
to Aussie Rules football. Just like
hurling it’s a fast game with plenty of
edge, it too is heavily promoted by
                                                the GAA.
Salmon & trout fishing in
          Ireland
Fishing in Ireland is an amazing
experience for it is said that
Ireland has the best Salmon and
Trout fishing in Europe but also for
the breath taking scenery of the
countryside, which is enough to
keep any keen fisherman at the
edge of a river no matter what the
weather or game, is like.

                                         The Fighting Irish – Boxing
Irish people are known as the
Fighting Irish and many of men
                                       became world champion boxers
and became a house hold name.
                                       Boxing clubs in Ireland have
                                       always been popular for many
years and still is producing some
great talented boxers who go onto
                                       compete around the globe.
Pub Scene
Pubs are a popular place for the locals to hang out on game days, the weekends, or happy hour.
Most of the time there is Irish Music or a Sports Game to watch for the locals.
They have the most popular Stout in the world – Guinness.
Irish whiskey is probably the best and finest whiskey one can find anywhere on earth due to the
time it takes to create the spirit, its price and its overall taste.
Also a more popular Irish drink in Ireland and almost unknown anywhere else is the spirit called
poteen that was once deemed illegal. Irish poteen is like a moonshine that would be home
brewed and sold from peoples homes.
Irish Car Bombs are an American Drink

                                             St. Patrick’s Day
Celebrates the teachings of Christianity by St. Patrick…the patron Saint of Ireland.
Citizens of Ireland don’t typically wear green on St. Patrick’s day, but they do wear Shamrocks as a
symbol of the teachings of the Holy Trinity, and pin Shamrocks to the outside of their coats or
                                                     shirts.
St. Patrick’s Day is seen as a holy day, and most Christians attend church and have a meal
                                                  afterward.
Green Beer is also an Americanized Irish tradition. It isn’t common to find green beer being served
in pubs, with the exception of a few in Dublin.
It was only in 1995 that the Irish government decided to promote Parades and festivals for St.
Patrick’s Day, with the idea that it could boost tourism.

Quick Things to Note
• The euro is the currency of the Republic of Ireland - In Northern
  Ireland, the currency is sterling.
• The Republic of Ireland has introduced a blanket ban on smoking in
all places of work to protect public health and reduce the incidences
  of smoking-related illness. Nil! No!
• English and Irish (Gaelic) are the official languages of the Republic
of Ireland. Street and road signs are all bilingual. In Gaeltacht
areas, Irish is spoken daily; however, everyone also speaks
  English.
• In Northern Ireland, English is the official language. The Irish
language, Gaelic, is also taught in many schools. Ulster Scots
(Ullans), spoken in Northern Ireland, is on the increase and is being
taught to those who are keen to explore another facet of their
  national identity.
• Ireland is very student friendly with many attractions offering a
reduced student rate/admission charge on the presentation of a
  valid student ID card.
• This entire trip will cost per person: $785.03 flight, € 300 lodging, €
  250 transportation, € 360 food, € 350 miscellaneous: € 2,045.03. ~

Bed and Breakfast
 Why stay at a B&B?
 Most B&B’s are owned by the B&B operators themselves, and they
usually live on the premisis. They usually bring a different perspective to
the job than someone who works a shift behind a hotel reception desk.
 The B&B Experience:
 Warm and friendly welcome of the Irish people
 Savor the experience of staying in an Irish family home
 Draw on the local knowledge of your host
 Enjoy the unique one on one experience
 Learn more about local Irish traditions and culture
 Get real value for your money
 Types of B&B’s:
    Country Homes
    Farmhouses
    Town Houses

It’s a fast and ferrous game that will have you either on the edge of your seat or jumping in the air like a crazy. It’s a game that has lots of history and is played nationally in every county. Traditional sport of Gaelic Football Gaelic Football is also extremely popular in Ireland and is played by many people and again it’s a sport with much history and is usually played with plenty of Irish pride. It’s very similar and sometime compared to Aussie Rules football. Just like hurling it’s a fast game with plenty of edge, it too is heavily promoted by the GAA.
  • 7. Salmon & trout fishing in Ireland Fishing in Ireland is an amazing experience for it is said that Ireland has the best Salmon and Trout fishing in Europe but also for the breath taking scenery of the countryside, which is enough to keep any keen fisherman at the edge of a river no matter what the weather or game, is like. The Fighting Irish – Boxing Irish people are known as the Fighting Irish and many of men became world champion boxers and became a house hold name. Boxing clubs in Ireland have always been popular for many years and still is producing some great talented boxers who go onto compete around the globe.
  • 8. Pub Scene Pubs are a popular place for the locals to hang out on game days, the weekends, or happy hour. Most of the time there is Irish Music or a Sports Game to watch for the locals. They have the most popular Stout in the world – Guinness. Irish whiskey is probably the best and finest whiskey one can find anywhere on earth due to the time it takes to create the spirit, its price and its overall taste. Also a more popular Irish drink in Ireland and almost unknown anywhere else is the spirit called poteen that was once deemed illegal. Irish poteen is like a moonshine that would be home brewed and sold from peoples homes. Irish Car Bombs are an American Drink St. Patrick’s Day Celebrates the teachings of Christianity by St. Patrick…the patron Saint of Ireland. Citizens of Ireland don’t typically wear green on St. Patrick’s day, but they do wear Shamrocks as a symbol of the teachings of the Holy Trinity, and pin Shamrocks to the outside of their coats or shirts. St. Patrick’s Day is seen as a holy day, and most Christians attend church and have a meal afterward. Green Beer is also an Americanized Irish tradition. It isn’t common to find green beer being served in pubs, with the exception of a few in Dublin. It was only in 1995 that the Irish government decided to promote Parades and festivals for St. Patrick’s Day, with the idea that it could boost tourism.
