conveyors are declining from check in to the baggage hall.
Each fixing attached to the building shall be evaluated and approved by an structural
engineer.
Take special consideration to use correct supports for conveyors due to the special
Building design because of an elevated possibility of seismic activities. In case of an
earthquake event the special supports of the Building foundations will absorb the
major movement of the ground; therefore solid connections between Building
foundation and upper floors are not permitted.

 All equipment fixed to the floor -6,6m is not protected by special shock
absorbers and will receive the full acceleration force up to 400 cm/sec2.

 Relative movement of basement foundation (-6,60m) and building ceiling
(-0,40m) could be up to 0,45m in case of earthquake

 Relative movement of building above the shock absorbers (-0,40m arrivals)
and check in level (+7,60m) could be up to 0,05m in case of earthquake

Explosive type anchors shall be not to be used. 22.17 Catwalks 22.17.1General a) Where catwalks are specified, the conveyor and adjacent catwalks shall be supported by a common sill. 22.17.2Requirement a) The enclosed Specification is indicating the minimum necessary catwalks, but nevertheless the BHS supplier shall provide appropriate catwalks, work platforms and access ladders for operational access (clearing of jams) and minor maintenance. Where possible the maintenance access catwalks shall be connected with catwalk walkways to eliminate the need for ladders at all access points. The extent of the catwalks, access ways, Bridges, platforms, ladders and swingovers shall be shown on the Tenderer layout drawings. 22.17.3Design Load a) The catwalk working live load shall be 146 kg per square meter with a concentrated load of 227kg in 0.5 square metres. 22.17.4Supports a) All Catwalks shall be adequately sway braced in both the lateral and longitudinal directions as required by local engineering and seismic design codes
  • 4. 22.17.5Construction a) Access ladders and catwalks shall be constructed with a walking surface of 5mm gauge check plate or web grating with a galvanized or painted finish and if required painted to clients specification 22.17.6Width a) Minimum catwalk width shall be nominally 600mm with a 50mm gap between the catwalk and the conveyor, unless otherwise specified. 22.17.7Surface a) Level catwalks shall have a grated expanded mesh surface. Therefore inclined catwalks of up to 8° shall be equipped with an anti skid surface. 22.17.8Inclined Catwalks a) Catwalks of greater than 8° shall be stepped, as well as equipped with anti skid surface. 22.17.9Handrails a) Handrails shall be installed on all platforms and catwalks except on sides adjacent to conveyors. 22.17.10 Toe Kick a) Platforms and catwalks shall have 50mm high toe boards except where they might interfere with access to a conveyor or at any entrance/exit location of the catwalk. 22.17.11 OSHA Standards a) All platforms, catwalks and ladders shall comply with European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) standards. 22.17.12 Access ways a) For access to the catwalks ladders shall if possible be located a maximum of 30 meters apart and positioned so as to not hinder traffic lanes or walkways. 22.17.13 Pull-down ladders a) Pull-down ladders for catwalk access may be used where fixed ladders cannot be installed due to traffic or staging conditions.
  • 5. 22.17.14 Fixed Vertical Ladders a) Design of ladders shall meet or exceed OSHA 1910.27. b) All fixed ladders shall be of steel construction. c) The distance between rungs shall be no more than 300mm and be uniform throughout the height of the ladder. All rungs shall have a minimum diameter of 20mm and withstand a 180 kg load when in use. All rungs shall be a minimum of 380 wide. The live loads imposed by personnel occupying the ladder shall be considered to be concentrated at such points as shall cause the maximum stress in the structural member being considered. d) Tenderer shall generally allow a minimum of 100mm between the back of the ladder and the nearest permanent object. A minimum of 760mm shall be allowed between the front of the ladder and the nearest permanent object. 380mm shall be allowed from the center of the ladder to the nearest object on each side. The step across distance from the nearest ladder edge to the nearest equipment or structure edge a minimum of 63mm and shall not exceed 300mm. e) Side rails shall be of such cross section as to afford adequate gripping surface without sharp edges or burrs. f) Tenderer shall provide protective guards (i.e., chains) at the top of ladders. g) Tenderer shall Grind smooth all rough surfaces and edges. h) All fixed vertical ladders shall be painted in safety yellow. 22.17.15 Ship's Ladders a) Tenderer shall provide fixed steel ship's ladders to access platforms and walkways as shown on the contract drawings. b) Design ladders shall meet or exceed OSHA 1910.27. c) All ship's ladders shall be of steel construction. d) Tenderer shall provide steel stringers using minimum 150mm channel. Tenderer shall design the ladder so that the angle between the stringer and the floor shall not be less than 60° and not more than 65°. The distance between treads shall be a maximum of 300mm is uniform throughout the height of the ladder. e) Handrails shall be fitted to both sides using 32NB tubing.
