      Bibliography
Origin
 In the 16th century, immigrants from Spain landed in Cuba
  and discovered the Havanese breed.

 Havanese were brought back to to Spain where they were
admired for being a lap-dog of Spanish aristocracy.

 The Havanese were sometimes referred to as the Havana
Silk Dog or the Spanish Silk Poodle by the Spanish.
Origin
 The Havanese were
  closely related to the,
  now extinct, Tenerife
  breed, which is an
  ancestor of the Bichon
  family.
 The Havanese breed is
  now the National Dog of
  Cuba.
 The Havanese is the only
  breed native to Cuba.
Origin – My Thoughts
 The Havanese are relatively “old breed” because they were
discovered around the 16th Century (although, they were
only recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1996).

 The Spanish were impressed with the Havanese breed and
  admired them so much that royalty in Spain owned them;
there must be something good about the breed!
Appearance – Body
 Known as a “toy”, small in stature (stands between 8 ½ and 11
  ½ inches tall)

 Sturdy and solid physical body

 Slightly longer in length than height

 Long tail curls up over behind

 Small, black button nose

 Dark eyes and black lips, standard on all colors of Havanese

 Long, dangling ears
Appearance - Coat
 Coat ranges in color – white,
    black, cream, silver, gold,
    brown, blue (can be
    multicolored)
 Pattern may vary from solid
    colored coat to speckled or
    stripped
 Coat can vary from curly to
    wavy hair
 Show dogs must have long
    coat, puppies coats can be
    short
 Hypoallergenic
 Does not shed
Appearance – My
         Thoughts
 The Havanese is the  Havanese can be kept in a
perfect small dog for “puppy cut” to reduce
many families because of maintenance and do not
their sturdiness and small shed so dog hair will not
size. be all over the place!
 Havanese are good for
  families that may have
  allergies to other kinds of
  dogs, because they are
  hypoallergenic.
Havanese
           Temperament
 Havanese have playful  Good alarm dog, but not
and youthful spirits and watch dog. They alert
are good with kids. when a stranger arrives,
 People-oriented breed but love meeting new
  and enjoy following their people.
chosen “person” around.  Havanese are easily
 Havanese are an alert and excitable, but calm down
  intelligent breed. quickly.
 Have a sensitive nose and
  find things easily by
  sense of smell.
Temperament
 They are easily trainable  Enjoy sitting up high
and enjoy learning and where they can see and
performing new tricks. observe what is going on
 Havanese are known as around them.
“circus dogs” and when  Approximate lifespan is
excited they enjoy between 14-16 years.

  hindquarters or running much exercise.

Temperament – My
       Thoughts
 Havanese have a natural  Molly has a “special
love for human affection person” she follows
and are great family around in our house, my
  dogs. dad. Molly is very
