Narration: Greetings to the IslandWood Media 2.0 Advisory Team!
Thanks for watching this short update on our 2009 skunkworks activities. For more detailed information, please see the companion report, "IslandWood 2.0: A Report on Year One."
In 2009, program staff used a planning grant from the National Science Foundation to create a new approach to bringing IslandWood to after-school audiences. We should hear this summer about the funding status of the Nature’s Lessons three-year partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of King County.
We launched an IslandWood YouTube Channel, which continues to gain friends, subscribers, comments and ratings. The annotations (linkable text banners) have helped pushed this site into the top 40 referring sites to the IslandWood website.
We used the power of 2.0 technology to connect and inspire audiences through 1) an eco-explorations blog for parents of young children ,2) a green team blog for internal IslandWood audiences, and 3) a graduate program blog.
The IslandWood website now houses a body of video and curriculum resources that are free and downloadable for teachers everywhere.
TeacherTube, twitter, vimeo, ning and slideshare are among the other social network tools we’ve begun working with this year.
On the horizon are virtual eco-explorations, ongoing additions to the IslandWood YouTube channel, and possibly an iPhone app!
Moving forward, we continue to be guided by IslandWood's core learning objectives...
...and work to provide exceptional learning experiences, while inspiring environmental and community stewardship
Your support and guidance are key as we move through this new and exciting space! Thanks so much for being part of the team.
