Herbert Marshall McLuhan was a Canadian educator, philosopher, and scholar known for his work in communication theory and media studies. He taught at several universities and received his PhD from Cambridge University. McLuhan's work examined the effects of mass media and new technologies and is considered foundational to the study of media theory. He suffered a stroke later in life but continued his research until his death in 1980.
