  themes in program:

"Design education is more than an attempt to teach a set of technical skills. The
environment -- including the spaces in which people live and work, the products they

function as a society. Good design requires attention and sensitivity to social, economic,
political, cultural and behavioral issues. The aim of all curricula in the College of Design is
to develop the designer's perception, knowledge, skills and problem-solving abilities."

  conclusion
  what we need to do:

Overall, the schools that we chose to review in detail form a wide variety of examples of
“good” things going on in programs all over the country.
A few of these are similar to other programs in their curriculum organization.
A few of these are totally structured differently. What we can learn from them?
     Innovation is key (flexibility)
Some programs are silo-ed - some are not
Very few programs are actually interdisciplinary

       INNOVATION...and...head down, power through.

  • 35. Lindsay Beach | Kelly DeVore | Gabe Tippery SP10 North Carolina State University themes in program: "Design education is more than an attempt to teach a set of technical skills. The environment -- including the spaces in which people live and work, the products they consume, and the messages they receive -- has a powerful impact on how humans function as a society. Good design requires attention and sensitivity to social, economic, political, cultural and behavioral issues. The aim of all curricula in the College of Design is to develop the designer's perception, knowledge, skills and problem-solving abilities." current state of design education in the US and WORLD Tuesday, April 20, 2010

  • 46. Lindsay Beach | Kelly DeVore | Gabe Tippery SP10 conclusion what we need to do: Overall, the schools that we chose to review in detail form a wide variety of examples of “good” things going on in programs all over the country. A few of these are similar to other programs in their curriculum organization. A few of these are totally structured differently. What we can learn from them? Innovation is key (flexibility) Some programs are silo-ed - some are not Very few programs are actually interdisciplinary INNOVATION...and...head down, power through. current state of design education in the US and WORLD Tuesday, April 20, 2010
