2. HOLY WEEK
Passion Sunday begins this week which we call “Holy”.
This is the last week before we celebrate the joyous celebration of Easter. During this week
we celebrate the “Easter Triduum”. The Easter Triduum is made up of three days:
Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil on Saturday. This is the best part yet of the
seasons of the Church Year.
SEDER MEAL
Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 4:30 PM in Glenn Hall at St. Paul Church
The Seder meal is a meal celebrated during the Jewish Passover Season (Pesach). It recalls the enslave-
ment of the Jews in Egypt and celebrates their freedom from that enslavement. Jesus chose the Seder as
the time to give a “New Covenant”. This Seder planned at St. Paul Church is meant to be a time of special
table fellowship. It will be a tureen dinner. This is a meaningful way to complete the Lenten Season and to
prepare for Holy Week. More information will be in the bulletin.
TENEBRAE SERVICE
Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7:30 PM at St. Paul Church
The word “Tenebrae” means darkness in Latin. It refers to a public singing of Matins (a night office) and
Lauds (a morning office), part of the old form of the Liturgy of the Hours. The Liturgy has a tone of
mourning and a ceremony of light, which uses several candles. One by one these candles are extinguished
until, after the last candle is put out, a prayer is offered in darkness, one candle is relit and the assembly
disperses in silence.
