2. EDUCATION INNOVATION FUND FOR INDIA
The Education Innovation Fund for India (EIFI) is a collaborative project between the HP Office
of Global Social Innovation and the India Council for Integral Education (ICIE), an initiative of the
Sri Aurobindo Society.
The purpose of EIFI is to identify and collaborate with significant innovation projects in
education that can be scaled to the next level of operation, through the award of an EIFI Grant.
This is to be done through a national search to nurture and support the most promising
innovations in education within India. There is a One Crore Grant to the Most Promising
Project in Educational Innovation, along with several smaller grants awarded to projects that
show the capability to scale up their growth and impact the future of India’s education.
Grant Awards will be chosen by a Jury of prominent leaders
in India’s education, Govt service and business management
and announced at a national ceremony, in January, 2012.
The Advisory Council of the Education Fund in India includes
well known national leaders of major NGOs, consultancy
service companies, educational innovation service providers,
the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE,
USA), and global leaders in educational innovation.
EIFI is joined by projects such as the Unique Learner Project,
Project Ringtones, HP Catalyst Initiative and master teacher training initiatives by ICIE.
The India Council for Integral Education (ICIE) is a centre of educational innovation and a
premier association for master teachers, master facilitators and master administrators within
India. The Council is a project of Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry and an affiliate of the
International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
Sri Aurobindo, visionary, revolutionary, writer and Yogi has been hailed by the Nobel laureate
Romain Rolland as “the greatest synthesis of the east and the west” and by Nobel Laureate
Rabindranath Tagore as the voice of India. His thought and yoga have greatly influenced
education and innovation in India. The Sri Aurobindo society is an institution of national
importance with centres and branches throughout India. It is one of the largest and oldest
organizations working for the next future in India and globally.
3. ABOUT THE GRANT
EIFI has been set up to provide schools, universities and organizations,
grants that support and encourage innovative projects which can bring
about a transformative change in the field of education. The objective of
EIFI is to be a platform that identifies ideas from all over India and finds
ways to implement these ideas on a larger scale, which will help the
country as a whole.
The fund will enable creative NGOs, schools and universities, institutes and
other organizations within India to spark qualitative change or sustain
technological, pedagogical, or social change presently in progress.
Upon submission of the information required by the Grant application,
Proposal Submitters will receive a user name and password to the
EIFI website. Grant applications can include print presentation, video documentation, photographs and other innovative
uses of media.
The winning Grant Awardees will have national and global dissemination of their projects through the EIFI website and
the networks of the collaborating organizations.
There are 5 broad categories of Grant Proposals.
Innovative ideas or projects that are in the “development” (gestation phase), “validation” (pilot phase), or “scale-up”
(projects ready to grow to the next higher level of outreach);
Research projects that are academic in nature, which are peer-reviewed, have been published in an academic journal, and
which are ready for the experimentation phase;
“New way of doing something better, faster or cheaper” than previously, creating a qualitative change that is primarily
technological, primarily pedagogical, or primarily a social process innovation in content and practice;
“Stunning innovations” that radically change the way in which technology, pedagogy or social process is used in
education or in India’s social development;
Transfer of technology or social process from one environment presently successful in creating positive change to
another environment where such technology or social process is needed;
4. MAIN GRANT
The Main Grant consists of two categories:
The One Crore Grant
The applicants can apply for funds up to a maximum of one crore rupees.
Only one applicant will be awarded this grant.
Grants up to Rs. 15 Lakhs
The applicants can apply for funds up to a maximum of Rs. 15 lakhs.
15 applicants will be awarded this grant.
YOUNG LEARNERS & YOUNG INNOVATORS GRANTS
Children are the very core of the educational system and often have exciting and
creative ideas to improve, enhance and change these systems. The Young
Learners & Young Innovators grants are part of the initiative to encourage
innovation in education among the youth. These grants allow children and young
adults, from two separate categories - ages 11-14 and 15 to 17 years, to apply for
grants by conceptualizing and creating breakthroughs in the field of education.
All Young Learners will receive an award amount of Rs.11,000 if chosen.
The Young Innovators will receive a grant up to Rs. 1 lakh rupees depending on their
project requirement.
INDIA COUNCIL FOR INTEGRAL EDUCATION
ICIE aspires to be an authentic and collaborative centre for personal and
professional development, global standards in teaching and technology and
transmission of educational praxis at the local, state, regional, national and
global levels.
Networking of educators involved in the creation and dissemination of holistic
learning, combining deeper values and the latest technology.
Bringing about a major change in the entire educational scene in India by
initiating a creative and conscious integration of technology and Indian
psychological insights into the best practices of teaching.
5. SRI AUROBINDO SOCIETY
Sri Aurobindo Society is an international non–profit NGO, working for individual
perfection, social transformation and human unity, based on a spiritual foundation.
The Society strives for social change, empowerment, deeper values and excellence in
various fields, including education, village development, sustainable development and
