Introduction to Removable Prosthodontics PART II. Complete Denture  By Dr. May Al Hamadan
Removable Complete Denture (CD):       A removable dental prosthesis that replaces the entire dentition and associated structures of the maxilla and/or mandible
Objectives Restoration of esthetics Restoration of speech Restoration of mastication (chewing) Preservation of the remaining tissue health Patient satisfaction and comfort
CD includes: Conventional Immediate Overdenture Single denture
Parts of Complete Denture A) Denture Base:      which cover the edentulous tissue area and carries the artificial teeth B) Teeth: whichare attached to the denture base for the purpose of chewing, esthetic, phonetics..etc
CD has three surfaces: Polished surface The outer surface of the denture and in contact to the muscle of cheek and tongue
Fitting Surface:        The inner surface of the denture that contact to the oral mucosa
Occlusal Surface:        A surface of posterior teeth or occlusion rim that is intended to make contact with opposing occlusal surface
Steps in CD Construction CD construction needs six visits: Diagnosis, treatment plan, primary impression (preliminary) Border molding and final impression Jaw relation record Try-in the teeth Insertion of the denture Post-insertion adjustment
Immediate Denture     A removable complete or partial denture fabricated for replacement immediately following the removal of natural teeth
Overdenture     A removable complete or partial denture that covers and rests on one or more remaining natural teeth, roots and/or dental implant
Single Denture It is a denture either maxillary or mandibular that is opposed either natural teeth, or removable partial denture , or fixed partial or old denture
