2D and 3D media in teaching and learning
1. 2D and 3D Media in Teaching &
Learning
By- Fatin Najiha bt Zainuddin
2. • There are various types of 2 and 3-
dimensional (2D and 3D), which helps
students in the learning process.
• These materials are commonly used materials
that we do not pay attention to the
importance of this material in the teaching
and learning
3. • The material includes printed materials,
graphs, charts apart realia, models and real
objects. Realia materials and models are real
material brought into the classroom.
4. Definition of 2 Dimensional (2D)
materials
• 2D materials refer to materials with length
and width. This material is flat and is not
designed to provide depth. Some examples of
2D material including photographs, prints and
posters which have only two characteristic,
the width and length.
5. Among 2D material are:
1. Printed Material - include textbooks, reference
books, worksheets and printed materials provided
by the teacher.
2. Chart – organizational chart is more often used to
classify or show category about specific materials,
events, and species of animals or plants according to
the group. Students can clearly see if the teacher shows
the classification chart.
6. 3. Graph- The graph is a visual representation of
a set of data that explains about the relationship
and the changes that occur in the data set.
4. Poster- The poster is a painting or print that
incorporates the use of lines, letters and colors
in a visual presentation featuring one or more
specific messages.
7. • 5. photos and map
• Image is the visual representation of people, places
or things. Photos can be obtained from magazines,
newspapers, posters, postcards and calendars.
• Map refers to an abstract representation of a real
place where people live. Map consists of visual
symbols, lines, and colors
8. Definition of 3 Dimensional (3D)
materials
Refers to a material that has length, width and height.
3D objects comprises of various shapes like cuboid,
cone, cube, sphere, models, dioramas, and realia.
9. Realia
• Realia material is real material. Examples of realia are
like leaves and small animals that can be found in the
environment.
a) Natural Realia
• This is a living
material, such as
earthworms,
grasshoppers, and so
on,
• the actual material
(non-living) such as
machinery,
equipment and
other.
b) Preserved Realia
• The materials of life
that has been
preserved and stored
in a chemical liquid.
For example, fish and
insects.
(C) Specimens
• This is a sample of life
that could represent a
specific group of living
creatures that have the
attributes or the
characteristics which
commonly found in the
group. Specimens
usually found in the
form of preservatives.
• For example, leaves and
shrimp
10. Diorama
• Diorama is an exhibition of a model to
describe the state of a form or a view about
the origin of the situation.
11. Puppets

especially for language lessons or moral education.
Some types of dolls are made for teachers can
include
(A) Hand Puppet gloves
(B) Sticks Doll
(C) Wayang Kulit
(D) Dolls Toys with strings
(E) Mask
12. How these media can help in
improving teaching in learning?
• Textbook provides a solid foundation for
pupils’ learning and a way to add information
and knowledge.
• Act as a stimulant to attract students to a new
topic or a particular school events.
13. • Most printed materials can be used easily and
do not need much explanation.
• Pictures help teachers explain something that
may be difficult to be described by words,
such as the English proverb says a picture is
worth a thousand words.
14. • Realia help learning certain subjects more easily and
to build an associative bridge between the classroom
and the world.
• 3D objects can support other materials such as
textbooks and contribute to concrete experience,
and provides a stimulus for creativity and expression.
