t was the best of times, it was the worst
of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was
the age of foolishness, it was the epoch
of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it
was the season of Light, it was the season of
Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was
the winter of despair, we had everything
before us, we had nothing before us, we were
all going direct to Heaven, we were all going
direct the other way — in short, the period
was so far like the present period, that some
of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being
received, for good or for evil, in the superla-
               tive degree of comparison only.
Lists
A bullet point is supposed to be a short sum-
mation of the key point that you want to
make. It should not reveal all you know about
the idea, or there is nothing left for you to say.

For each idea you want to convey, consider
what the key point is and put that as a bul-
let point. Then add to the bullet point by the
words that you speak during the presentation.

A bullet point is not a sentence, but should
        reveal the key idea.

Each bullet point starts with either a verb or a
noun – a verb is more action oriented and is
        usually preferred.

If using verbs they are all in the same tense –
the most common is the present tense with
the past tense being the next most common.

The use of capitalization is the same in each
bullet point – usually the first letter of the
first word is capitalized and the rest of the
words are in lower case unless it is a proper
        name.

Within county government, major departments are responsible for main-
taining their buildings, said Greg High, director of the county’s architec-
        tural and engineering division.
A countywide building inspection initiative was launched in the late
1990s, aimed at assessing the condition of all county buildings and devel-

the county’s buildings have been assessed, or given a detailed inspection,
        High said.
About $150,000 a year was set aside for inspections for several years, he
said. But that figure was zeroed out for the past two years.
“All I can say is we didn’t have the budget money to continue to do the as-
sessments,” High said. He is requesting $1.5 million for 2011 to complete
        the assessments.

  • 12. Lists A bullet point is supposed to be a short sum- mation of the key point that you want to make. It should not reveal all you know about the idea, or there is nothing left for you to say. For each idea you want to convey, consider what the key point is and put that as a bul- let point. Then add to the bullet point by the words that you speak during the presentation. A bullet point is not a sentence, but should reveal the key idea. Each bullet point starts with either a verb or a noun – a verb is more action oriented and is usually preferred. If using verbs they are all in the same tense – the most common is the present tense with the past tense being the next most common. The use of capitalization is the same in each bullet point – usually the first letter of the first word is capitalized and the rest of the words are in lower case unless it is a proper name.
