product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?

Front page
Masthead – on the front page the masthead is very large and
covers two thirds on the top row in the rule of thirds, this is not
very conventional for an indie magazine. Q takes up the first box,
NME takes up half of the whole line and Kerrang takes up the
whole line. The use of black and white is strong whilst looking
attractive.

House colours – having house colours is conventional but for
indie music it includes red which has connotations of death and is
generally for more rocky music and not indie. Whereas blues are
colours that attract both genders and not one dominantly, creating
more chilled and care-free vibes. This colour does not feature in
house styles of popular magazines allowing this magazine to be
unique but still professional looking

Coverlines – conventional for all magazines, but these are
relevant to this indie magazine
Main coverline – telling the reader about who’s in the main image
and what the article on them is about
Main image – band of males which still invites males to these
magazines but also includes females in the magazine offering
female attraction also. My image is not conventional as it is an
image from a practising studio which is shown in the mise-enscene in Leicester whereas conventional magazines would use a
photo studio and have a block background colour.
