• English is the official language and is widely
spoken.
• Creole is used among Haitian immigrants.
Race mainly consists of:
• 85% African American
• 12% Caucasian
• 3% Asian and Hispanic

Food Special to the Bahamas brought by the Bahamas
• Mainly sea foods and • We have a lot of their main
poultry. foods here such as
– Fish – Fish
– Meat – Meat
– Chicken – Chicken
– Cow – Cow
– Squid – Other different sea foods like
– Shark squid, shark, tuna, etc.

4. Dining Etiquette
If you are invited to a
Bahamian’s house:
• Arrive on time if invited
to dinner; no more than
15 minutes late if invited
to a barbecue or a large
party.
• Dress well, in clothes you
would wear to the office.
Dressing too informally
may be misconstrued as a
lack of respect towards
your hosts.

5. Watch your Table Manners!
• Do not sit down until you are invited to

leave a small bit of food on your plate.

to most frequently.

– Meringue

8. Economic Aspect
• Tourism is the engine of the Bahamian
economy.
– The sector employs half of the workforce
– They produce three-fourths of foreign exchange
earnings
– Main tourist infrastructure is located in Nassau,
but tourism is also in the Family Islands

9. Current Standard of Living
• The Bahamas has two major
public hospitals
• Government health clinics are
located in many communities all
throughout the nation
• Healthcare professionals
provide home care for specific

• Lack of medicine and modern
equipment are the most
significant deficiencies in the
public sector.
• The Bahamas has one of the
region's highest rates of AIDS
per capita.
