This document discusses the benefits of implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM) on projects. It argues that BIM, when used comprehensively ("BIG BIM"), can transform the construction industry by improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enabling more informed decision-making. In contrast, using only certain BIM tools or on small portions of a project ("little bim") will not achieve these full benefits. The document urges industry professionals to embrace BIG BIM in order to create a more productive and sustainable built environment.

1. The house is on fire and we
are just sitting around...
...Why BIM should be important to you, RIGHT NOW
2. • Construction industry is
inefficient and wastes resources
• We have tools to do it...
RIGHT NOW

6. We are in a crisis
• We spend too much & get too
little for our efforts
• We make too many decisions at
the wrong time...with too little
information
11. BIG BIM is
big picture industry
transformation.
Advanced tools speed
activities so much that
business processes change.
12. (page 42)
BIG BIM is comparable to the big business
changes that developed with these inventions:
Electricity Telephone Fax
Computer BIM
13. But what is little bim?
...CAD is a hand ...little bim is a
saw, and... power saw
14. little bim is not just one
power saw, but a whole
power saw tool set....
15. And little bim is not just a
power saw tool set, but a
collection of power tools.
16. The bim software tool set
includes the usual suspects:
Autodesk’s Revit
Graphisoft’s Archicad
Bentley’s Generative Components
Gehry’s Digital Project

17. The bim software tool set
also includes unusual
suspects:
Google SketchUp Google Earth
Excel WebEx
Ecotech OPS
MindManager ArcExplorer

25. “Our last $1 million project
was a heck of a lot more
work and effort than this
$9 million project.
It was a lot of work before,
...this was much easier.”
William Gordy, Deputy Fire Chief
