Is this you? Do you find your self stuck in front of the board? Hopefully some of the tools that you will learn today will help you separate you from this amazing tool that was created in 1801 at West point Academy. Yes - the Chalkboard.
Sadly in our students eyes many of them see you us as this type of character. Not that there is anything wrong with this look, but for many of us, this might not be the way that we see ourselves. Well after we are done with this presentation you will look hopefully like (next slide)
Worst Case scenario you will look like (next slide)
On a serious note, although an iPad can be an amazing tool for you as an educator, please, please, please, I encourage you to take that iPad home and use it for personal reasons. This is how you will get used to it and learn its full functionality. Like anything else, the more that you do something the better you become at it. So what are we trying to avoid. (next slide)
We as Educators can’t continue to teach the same way that we have taught year after year. We can all agree that are students are different then they were 5 years ago, and 10 years ago, and 20 years ago. They keep on changing. I would like to think they they have “Evolved” for better or worst - not sure yet. We as Educators need to “Evolve” as well. We need to mix it up. We can’t continue to use the same style of instruction daily. Thought? - would you want to go back to being a kid and sit in your class? Kids love change. They change thier mind all the time. They change boyfriend and girlfriends every 10 minutes. They are BFF’s one day and the next day they are Enemies for Life. We need to embarce this neverending change. We need to change with them. Go into thier world. It’s easier to bring 1 person (you) their world then bringing 150 of them to your world. So back to change - how many different forms of presentations have you given this month? (next slide)
Just know that there are lots of FREE options for you out there. You are obviously in the right place if you are here in a workshop wanting to learn more. Keep it up. ( Next Slide)

What about Cartoons? Students can make cartoons, explain them and prove comprehension.
Yes, I agree that students need to know how to take exams. But does every form of assessment need to be an exam? What is the purpose of an assessment? The purpose is for you the teacher to assess the students knowledge for comprehension. There are a million ways to focus on assessments.
Flip the Idea: Can teachers use Cartoons to explain key important concepts?

Why not allow students to read their books electronically? Example: Gods and Generals - huge hit because I allowed the students to read books on iPad, iTouch, or iPhone. If a student is reluctant to read, maybe digital books might be an open door into reading for that child.
Must have App. So lets see where my iPad’s, computer, and wife is on Sunday Nov 13th, 2011.
Take a break before Songify.
Students and Teacher have a pluthera of notebooks that they can choose from. Picking your notebook is liking picking a hat or shoes. You have to pick something that works for you and looks good. This might be an easy decision for you at Walmart, Publix, Walgreens, and so on, but it’s not that easy when it comes to your iPad.
There are a bunch of iPad Notebooks out there that all say “they are the best”. Like anything else, you have plenty to choose from, and you should find one that meets your personal needs.
Everyone can use Bamboo Paper or Penultimate. They are without a doubt cool apps. The one thing that really stands out for me in this app is its use for math teachers. Teachers now have a hand held device to demonstrate a problem on a students desk. They can also take a picture of the problem and save it or email it to the student.
