3. Use of Sound
All teaser trailers we looked at used music to help create a sense of atmosphere
and to help the audience feel a certain way. We used an eerie instrumental piece
of music to help create a creepy atmosphere to fit the genre for our teaser trailer.
We also used a voiceover for our trailer, which is featured in trailers such as โThe
Wolf of Wall Streetโ, to help make our storyline easier for our audience to
understand and to be able to get a sense of the film from the trailer.
4. Text/Graphic Elements
We looked at different film titles into the colours and fonts that
they used. Such as โTrainspottingโ โLimitlessโ โShiftyโ and
โAbductionโ to gain some inspiration for what we wanted our
film title to look like. We liked the white colour for the title which
was used for out main inspirational trailers, โFight Clubโ and
โTrainspottingโ.
In our trailer we included the title and graphic screens, similar
to that used in the trailer for โLimitlessโ.
5. Narrative Information Given to the
Audience
In our trailer we feature one main character who voices the trailer with his
thoughts, this tells the audience who the main protagonist in the film is. Our
trailer features the theme of drugs and this is shown through the shots of the
pill, โSpiralโ throughout the trailer. We kept to the conventions of a teaser trailer
by not giving too much information away in the trailer and only showing the key
characters in the film. We also gave small hints as to the genre through the
eerie, suspenseful music underlying the trailer also gives the audience an
indication as to what the genre of the film is, e.g. drug thriller.
6. โSpiralโ Poster
This is our Poster for our Film "Spiral" we tried to stick to the same conventions as
other movie posters we looked at, for example, the posters for โLimitlessโ and
โTrainspottingโ. Features we kept the same in our poster as in other posters were
the billing block. Every film poster has a billing block of people who contributed to
the film, therefore we decided to include one in our own film poster. We chose the
title font in the style of a graffiti/thriller style font. We chose this as our film is a drug
thriller and often drugs have connotations of gangs that have connotations and are
known for graffiti, therefore this font and style of text seemed fitting for our film
poster.
7. We chose a water colour effect on our poster, this effect allowed us
to blur the image used on our poster and the face of our character.
This was a good feature to use and it could symbolise the
uncertainty and confusion of our characters identity, as the
audience too cannot see who the main character is as his face has
been blurred. This is also a feature used in the โLimitlessโ poster as
the bottom of the background in the poster is blurred. We included
reviews from popular magazine and newspapers that are also
featured on film posters. We used this to show our audience that
they rated the film high in their opinion and so this might persuade
the audience to go see our film if the magazine and newspaper
readers see that a well known company has given our film a good
review.
8. Magazine
For our magazine cover we looked into different film magazines such as
Empire, Little White Lies and Total Film, to gain inspiration for our own
magazine. I really liked the layout of a magazine front cover with a picture
that represents the main character on the cover and the title of the magazine
across the top with other points of information about other films surrounding
the picture and the rest of the magazine. We used some of these aspects in
our own magazine, for example, having an image on the front cover like
Empire magazine rather than having a drawing of the character that would be
featured in Little White Lies.
9. However, we did like the artistic look of
Little White Lies and so we added
effects onto our picture for the front
cover. We originally designed our
magazine cover for an Empire
magazine design, however, once we
began editing our product we wanted
to put our own style onto it that would
not have suited the Empire magazine
style. Therefore we created our own
magazine title and company so that we
had more freedom to put our own twist
on the front cover, such as the effects
and different font styles. However,
even though we created our own
magazine brand for our cover, we still
stuck to the conventions that were
featured on the different magazines we
researched. Features that we found
were included were the bar code and
price of the magazine on the front as
well as advertisements and promotions
for other new films. We created a
signature style for the title of our
magazine that the readers would
recognise, the camera lens in the "O"
for Vapour.
