TASK DESIGN PROJECT RATIONALE Thetwentyfivestudents of  the 901 grade of the  I.E Antonio Baraya havesomestrenghts and weaknesses regarding  thelearning of English as a foreignlanguage. They are strong in linguistic and readingskills which are deepleyworked in classthroughmanyactivites. Thesestudents  are notusedto listen and speakthe target languageduetothefactthattheseskills are notdevelopedwiththesameinterests. Whentheteacherrequiresthestudentstoreportorallydifferentthings, they are ashamed, shy and reluctanttoparticipate, so thespeaking activities becometedious and undesirableforthesestudents. Itisnecessarytocarryoutcommunicativetasks in which they can expresstheirthoughts and feelingsspontaneously.
PROFILE OF LEARNERS Thestudents of 901 grade are 25 in sum, thirteenboys and twelvegirls, whoseagesrangefrom 13 to 16 yearsold. Most of thesestudents do notlikeEnglish.
OBJECTIVES Tomotivatethestudentsforthelearning of English. Toachieve  a lowaffectivefilter in thestudentsreducingtheiranxiety and shynessthroughthe activities. Todevelopthelistening and speakingskillswithouttoomucheffort. Todeveloptheircooperativelearningworking in pairs, smallgroups and thewholethegroup. Tomaintain a goodrapport and environment in theclasses.
TASK INSTRUCTIONS     ACTIVITY ONE:  Game: thestair Materials: parques color counters, onehugestairboard, five dices, cards. Grouping: smallgroups. Procedure:  Theteachermakes at randomfivegroups of fivestudents. In themiddle of theclassroom , theteacherputsthehugestairboard. Theteachergiveturnstothegroupstothrowthe dice in ordertoadvance in theboard. If theyland  at  thefoot of theladder, theymove up tothe top of theladder. If theyland at the head of a snake , thentheymovedowntothetail of thesnake. Whenstudentslandon a smileyfaceorsadface, they pick up a card in which somepersonalityadjectives are written.
If thestudentslandon a happyface, onestudent in thegroup, takes  a card of a positive personality factor and orallymakecomparisonsbetweentwopartnerstalkingabouttheirqualities. Forexample:  Lina Mariais more funnierthanJose Daniel. Roberto is  more romanticthan Camilo. If thestudentslandon a sadface, onestudent in thegroup, takes a card  of a negativepersonality factor and orallymakecomparisonsbetweentwopartnerstalkingabouttheirdeffects. Forexample: Margarita is more badtemperedthan Joan. Eylinislazierthan Orlando. If thestudentsthrow  6 theygetanotherturn. Thegroupwinneristheonewhogetstotheend of theboardfirst.
STAIR BOARD
ACTIVITY TWO: Name of theactivity: Compare yourfavouriteteachers. Materials: Photographs, video beam, sheetpapers,  Grouping: wholegroup. Procedure:  Theteacherbeginsbyshowingsomephotographs of theteacherstothestudents in the video beam. Withthegame tingo tango studentstaketurnstotakeoutfrom a bag a  piece of paper in which thenames and  of twoteacherstobecompared are written. Theteachertellsthestudentswhatadjectives he needsto use tomakecomparisons. Thestudentwhosayscorrectlythesentence can  win a prize.
