The document discusses the mobile operating system market and differences between mobile apps and websites. It notes that the mobile OS market is overcrowded and dominated by Android and iOS. It then compares advantages and disadvantages of mobile apps versus mobile websites, finding apps better for interactivity and offline use while mobile websites have broader reach but lack installation. It stresses determining user needs over wants when choosing an app or mobile site.
I ’ m realy pasionated about mobile. I think it is already changing our lives. It already changed mine. I used to have endless discussions with my friends about stupid details like how many people are living in china. Since i have mobile internet access these discussions are over in a minute. And i realy believe that it is these kind of small things, but a lot of them wil change our lives. My position as a mobile innovator gives me quit a good overview on what is going on in the mobile market. I will bring to you an overview of things that i think you should know about Mobile.
Most experts on mobile internet will tell you that only a few OS ’ s will survive. Why is this relevant for all of you? Because they all dream of having a succesful application store like apple. When today, you want to offer a mobile application towards ALL smartphone users, you will need to develop at least 10 native applications.
Only a few companies have the resources do have 10 applications developped. The result is that only apple and android have a lot of applications available. Windows Mobile has a handful of applications and the other stores are non=existing. And even more important, they are non-used. I believe that Android will be number one, Apple IOS second and Windows Mobile will be the thirt and last player. The other will dissapear within a few years. Maybe that the asian market will bring an unforseen suprise. But this is my humble opinion.
A second item I want to share with you is the success of Android. In north america android has become the new market leader. In the latest quarter 50% of newly sold smartphones where android. There ’s not only good news. The very broad range of devices is causing its first problems. You’re only sure that your application is working properly on a certain device, when you test it on that device. Life would be easy if everbody would buy an iphone. But even with these small problems, I believe that nothing will stop them in becoming the new marketleader on mobile OS.
